idk about 10 more yrs for xi. with aby you can lvl 1-99 in a day and with the new gear and food they gave to make skilling up super fast (not to mention martial master effect that happens now and then) you can cap all your jobs within a month. Since there are no more lvl caps you can also complete all missions for all 3 nations and all expansions in another month (and to make it easier there is talk about removing the 'wait til jp midnight' restrictions). After that all you really have to do is the lolcontent called voidwalkers and work on endless magians trials. Unless they come out with a new expansion and really give new content this game wont last more than a couple years at best. Ppl will get bored killing 30 time spawn nm then 4 nm 75 times for key items to pop/kill another nm 75 times and take that x3 plus add in their an unreasonable amount of elusive drops (1500 heavy metals + 200 riftwhatevers im looking at you). We think Ifrit/Moogle drops are bad lol they aint nothin compared to empys which frankly are required for some jobs.

That being said Im putting high hopes into xiv. I hope they give us some of the good stuff tweaked for xiv (eg dynamis, nyzul isle, moblin maze mongers, einherjar, etc.) and stay far from the bad stuff (eg abyssea, proc systems, magians trials). And frankly idc if they steal an idea or two from WoW or some other mmo as long as they tweak it to make it work in xiv and not make it rediculous.

So far I am impressed with what Yoshi and the devs have been able to do with the steaming pile they were given and I raise my glass to their hard work and effort. ffxi-2 or not I like this possibilities before us

Oh wow look i just ranted on xi
    /em shakes head
    wrong forum for that

Most ppl that play 14 or atleast tried it at release used to play 11 and expected 14 to be alot more like it. Only reason i play 14 is that abyssea ruined 11 for me otherwise id be there. Some ppl do like timesink events and hard content like 21h-24h kings or camping sandworm for hours and losing claim but when you do claim/kill it feels great and its rewarding. Everything in 14 is so easy from leveling to endgame content(and yes i do enjoy exping.. my 1st job in 11 back in 2004 took me 1 year to get it to cap, killing in 11 was alot of fun). If 14 gona be for casual players only i sure hope they make a ff11-2 and i bet it would bring more money to SE then this casual only 14.
Online players 01-22-2012: FF11 Odin server: 2603 FF14 Mysidia sever: 463 readings taken at the same time.
My 14 friendlist has a ton of friends from 11 that tried this and no longer play on the otherside some did stick with the game like me in hope this gets more ff11 alike.
On another note when i was playing 11 i had school/work yet i did manage to get everything in that game. Meaning ppl that want it casual they mean easy mode.

    FF11 = hardcore FF14 = nubs

Oh and i do try to stay away from these ff11 vs 14 discussion but cant stand these 14 aint 11 ppl, dont port anything from 11 to 14 cause this aint 11. Honestly if i were SE id rather lose all these 14 aint 11 ppl(and lets face it that aint many) and get 11 fans which are alot.

There, i let it all go. I'm ready to get flamed in these forums filled with 14 aint 11 ppl, cause 11 fans dont even bother checking the forums anymore.

    Thanks,
    Zor

I have to wonder, everyone and their mom says that Abyssea ruined FFXI.
Do you think that SE would re-launch FFXI without any expansions or add-ons?

Just, like again from zero? I mean, I would think they would launch the game with the same things that made you (XI fans) leave the game in the first place.

Abyssea ruined the game cause it made everything ppl did in the 8 years prior to it obsolete. Abyssea is fun but it made everything else useless in the game. Easy levels easy gear easy relics something that used to take years to obtain. So a nub that joins in 2011 within a month is lv99 with a relic and af3 which pretty much beats anything else so what about the effort ppl put into the game since 2004? /toss

The experiences you had, cannot be recreated no matter how hard you want it to be. That first time when you where lv10 and exploring a lv40 area that magic won't happen again. It's sad but it's true. The best you can do now is just keep it fond in your memory because a remake will never be able to recreate the moments that made you love the original FFXI.

    Edit:
Just to expand upon this, you didn't love FFXI for the job skills and the way partying was (because it was slow and a time-sink in and of itself). You loved it because of the experiences you had in it with friends, and the events you did for the first time. And, unforunately... those things just cannot be remade.
    Hey Dayo,

This isn't true for everyone. What of the people who miss the XI experience that also played EverQuest for a number of years? Are they also "wearing rose-colored glasses?" No, I don't think so. Some people just enjoy certain gameplay elements, and some still purchased this game with the hopes that SE would stay true to their roots and not sell out and pull WoW elements for subs. However unreasonable this may sound, it's true.

Just checkin' your mind to make sure it's staying open, Risx. Stay frosty.

Nail on the head, boss. It made all other endgame items useless, all 1-70 content useless, and all other endgame content semi-useless. /tossalong

    What an interesting community

I mean, I always knew I hated 50% of the people that played FF games because of their digressive antiquated thought processes, but I never knew just how many plagued this games community.

It's funny to hear so many people asking for this game to become niche like FFXI.

    Hmmm let's see here

If i'm a business CEO and I have the choice of appealing to 10 million potential customers like WoW did, or the hard to please 500k niche audience, which one am I going to choose?

Clearly the 500k "old-fart" minded people can GTFO while I build an entirely new fanbase and much larger following for my MMO title.

After all, this is a business, not an ethics haven for people who want a game that stands still in time just the way they like.

What's more amusing is that i'm absolutely positive the 500k of you that enjoy FFXI's old school style are the same people that have bashed the crud out of every new FF title square has released that tried to be innovative and evolutionary.

I wont name titles b/c we all know what they are.

Square IS NOT going to cater to the 500k of you selfish niche old school fans.

FFXIV is Squares attempt at making an approachable mainstream MMO title that still embodies the theme of the FF series we all know and love.

The days of slow grind content are long gone. Asking for that to come back is futile.

The current MMO trend is "flash in the pan" style end game content with enough side activities to tide players over in between major patches and expansions.

Either get used to this trend, wait years for a new trend to emerge, or go play an older grind oriented MMO that's still live. God knows there's enough of them...

Whatever do you though, Don't bring your self-centered FFXI /crybaby story over here asking for Square to cater to your needs.

Most of you old school lovers think that you make up a majority of the FF series fan base, and you might just be right, but from a business stand point, Square is better off without you for FFXIV.

The sooner we get more open-minded, innovative, forward thinking players to invest in this game, the higher the chances will be that it becomes successful.

Id take the 500k guaranteed ff11 fans with a continuation of ffonline series and keep it to the roots, then id invest on another mmorpg with a different name if i want to try new things. That way id get money from both.
