Well obviously there's some situations you wouldn't want to do that =P Since the Ifrit fight focuses very heavily on keeping hate on the tank at all times so he doesn't get blown up it's an exception rather than the rule. For regular party stuff taking hate from the tank for a second generally isn't a big deal.

I am sure that there is no situation in the game right now where you would need to do that.
Only for the kicks of it.

Assassin!! Role: not really care. XD But maybe burst dmg-ish melee or so... No idea but would be cool to see Pugilist turn into Assasin. ^.^

Actually I can see Assassin being the Scout/Thief type sneaky class they plan on adding, with Thief being its first Job eventually.

As for MNK, the only other job I've ever seen using hand-to-hand in some reliable way in the history of Final Fantasy is... Puppetmaster. :P So that's why it's the only other job that comes to my mind to associate with the Pugilist class.
