I am kinda on the same page, but I’m not a fan because it’s mostly I don’t find this anime/Asian art style appealing. I went for something as close to western as I could. I do enjoy the armour for male plate armour, and the environment but it’s the gameplay that keeps me here.
Why can I only like this once? Nothing creeps me out more.

When I was initially making my character I found FF14's editor a bit limited. It took me a lot of time to finally decide on Miqo'te and that race still wasn't perfect, but I decided to stick with my character and being a cat grew on me. Most often I play a regular human type character if I have the choice but I've come to really like the Miqo ears and tail, especially when they're animated in emotes.
Yet, even WoW is finding the capability to add more customization options in their next expansion after 15 years of limited creation options. So, I don't want to hear the excuses here from Squeenix anymore that it's not possible. It is possible, they just don't want to put the work in, even though many people want this to happen. I for one would love some different body options, I know sliders might be too hard to implement, but I'd like elezen more if I could shorten their limbs, or I'd like au'ra males more if I could slim up those thighs, etc.![]()
At the very least, I'd like more face options for the races.
Male midlander get to have 6 to choose from, while all the other races are limited to 4.
Most of them don't to me.
Hyur are okay, but they're just skinny humans or buff humans. I mostly play Hyur.
Lalafel: I don't like small cutesy races.
Roegadyn: Pretty much jsut taller, slightly blockier highlanders. I prefer highlanders for a 'strong' looking race as more of a balance I guess.
Elezen: I typically like elves but don't like their implementation.
Miqo'te: Not bad but not that into them.
Au Ra: The men are kinda funny and the females a bit too small, their models are fine for Raen I guess but I'd rather have Xaela with more savage stances/emotes etc than cutesy aisian dragon waifus.
Viera: Look great except the ears, the ears make it hard for me to play them or take them seriously.
Hrothgar: Neat conceptually but I don't tend to play beast races.
Having more doesn't make it okay, because it's a newer game. Compared to other games of its generation, the character creation of FFXIV is very underwhelming. It should've been better from the get go.
At one point maybe, I couldn't decide if I wanted to be a catboy or Au Ra, but then once I upgraded to the full edition from the trial edition and started playing with Au Ra customization, I immediately fantasia'd to male Xaela even before I was lvl 50, and I don't regret it one bit. After that the only time I used fantasias were for little chabges like my eyes, tail, and height. Only major fantasia was my gender to female Xaela once and that was to avoid FC drama and not because I wanted to be one, I didn't have a bad time as one it's just I preferred being a male Xaela.
But even now I still get tempted to fantasia to something like male Elezen or Hrothgar, and I likely would fantasia to Eleven if I could find a way to deal/get used to the long necks they have, maybe for Christmas I'll buy myself a fantasia for my main character and see if I like it as a alt or my retainer just doesn't give me enough feel for a race like elezen.
Once you play Elezen in a week you will not even notice the neck.At one point maybe, I couldn't decide if I wanted to be a catboy or Au Ra, but then once I upgraded to the full edition from the trial edition and started playing with Au Ra customization, I immediately fantasia'd to male Xaela even before I was lvl 50, and I don't regret it one bit. Like Au ra, when I noticed that it has no ears It took a bit to play as one again.
