Almost as if it were a game we want to enjoy, instead of having to sink hours into what we consider unenjoyable bits.

Personally I'd be quite happy if crafting just involved gathering the materials and converting them into crafted items with no 'manual handling' required. I've played other games with crafting systems like that.

I'll get far more enjoyment out of whatever story is attached to the Ishgard restoration than I'll possibly get from the activity of crafting the required items.

The early part of ishgard restoration is likely going to be the stuff you have to grind through (that low levels can do for xp) to get to the stuff people care about (the crafting endgame progression). The 14 version of the AQ war effort to eventually get to the payoff of AQ.

They've said the part of it people are looking forward to isnt until 5.2, so I'm not holding out hope for all that much interesting content in 5.11.

Your hot take is "I dont like the way crafting works in this game so it should be easier so i can do it anyway?"

That seems like the equivalent of saying ultimate fights should be killable by everyone who spends even a small amount of time on them.

Yes, and I would like to be able to to clear savage raids by just queuing for them.

Step 1 - Queue for raid.
Step 2 - Wait for raid to pop.
Step 3 - The queue pops. Immediately, a cutscene plays of my character beating up the raid boss or whatever. I automatically get the loot I want and the duty is marked as cleared.

Because some people don't want to sink hours and hours into wiping, which they may consider unenjoyable.

Crafting is not the main goal of the game, no matter how many people would like it so. So it can be afforded to become a "press button and item comes out" system.

PVE is the main goal of the game, so there's no chance it can be simplified to that extreme. You might as well go play AFK Arena for that.

So when developers make a game, they must make only what some forum users consider the "main goal" require effort and time? This is an mmorpg. Some rpg players actually like their rpgs to have progression.

Also, you don't need to be a crafter. You don't need to be a gatherer. So yes, they can afford to make it difficult. Logically speaking, they could even afford to make it more difficult than pve content. Because, you know, it's optional.

The content drought has often hit days after the new odd patches come out since there is no new gear treadmill to go on. A lot of it is gone through pretty quickly, and what is left is usually dailies.

Crafting is very much a selling point for many players, though. Especially since it gives them something to do during quiet periods. Making it entirely automated would be a mistake - and a quick look at the lodestone profiles reveals that the same players pushing for that to happen don't really dabble in many elements of the game to begin with.

I said can afford to, not have to. And I was just calling out your false equivalence of "if crafting can be one-buttoned, raiding should be one-buttoned to". PVE (of which raiding is a part of) is a main goal of the game. Crafting isn't, it is secondary facet of the game.

If they made crafting the main goal, and PVE second, this wouldn't be the same game anymore, let alone an RPG

Optionality doesn't correlate to difficulty. Sidequests aren't harder than dungeons. Gold Saucer isn't harder than dungeons. Relic Weapons aren't harder than dungeons.
