I just don’t understand this, like, honestly. Surely Yoshida realizes that at this point, he’s just helping and oversimplifying things for people that genuinely aren’t interested in crafting. They just want handouts. Crafting has been made easy since 4.0 began, people.
If you STILL whine and complain about crafting being “too hard” or “too grindy” even in 5.1!?......something is wrong with you!![]()

He has made it as easy as possible so the "Lore" junkies can do Ishgard restoration.
You've mixed that up. Side content is the content that can afford to be difficult or grindy, because it caters to the small crowd that enjoy it fully. It's the MSQ, which must be available to every player, that is forced to be simple and accessible.
Look at the effort you need to breed a perfect rank 9 chocobo. Or the 1000-2000 S ranks you need for a Hunt mount. Or the harder PvP mount grinds. Or the difficulty of Ultimate raids. Or high ranking Mahjong. Or the weeks you can sink chasing a single Triple triad card. Or the months needed for Relic grinds. Or the tiny handful who have beaten 200 solo PotD.
Plenty of side content demands effort, patience and dedication. Why should high end crafting be different?
It seems like it's going to be geared toward 70's and when you combine that with all the recent changes, it means you only need 1 crafting vocation to 70 to effectively participate. Participation was the goal, they said that. They would rather see 50 crafters in level 70 yellow scrip gear than 10 crafters in penta meld 80.
tl:dr if you want to participate in this, level culi to 70. It doesn't use cross class parts and as things sit, you can gear it from the NPC vendors found in the cities to 50, use GC gear at 50 and move to yellow scrip after that. Ignore all the old rules. If you need to turn in NQ leve quests, do it. They give as much now as previous HQ. If you luck out on some HQ all the better but if you are leve point capped you have enough to level one class to 70 even NQ. You can do it before down time as of me writing this.

Hoping more hair styles unlocked for new races that we paid for and earned.
My highest level crafter is level 24, and my highest level gatherer is 2. There is no way I could be bothered to level any of it, unless there was a crafting bag like in ESO, or a huge streamline, and even then I doubt I'd level it. Even if they did add crafting level boosts I probably still wouldn't level them to 80, or if I did it would probably be next expansion by the time, and the only reason I would do it would be for beast tribe cosmetics or something.

I am levelling my crafters, but I have to comment here because I think you have a point about there needing to be a 'crafting bag' like in ESO... or even do what WoW does and have a specific 'reagent bank' that you don't have to take the mats out of to craft from. This would just be a huge quality of life improvement. I don't think any of the crafting systems need to be changed... but this would be amazing. I can't stand keeping all my mats in my bag (might be to do with my OCD) and I can't craft directly from any mats stored by my retainers either. My highest level crafter is level 24, and my highest level gatherer is 2. Necromancer, Chemist and Time Mage Jobs for FFXIV! Also Doomtrain...
You can also level it by doing your Grand Company turn ins on a regular basis and just complete the logs and quests as they become available if you don't want to sit around and actually craft things for long periods of time.My highest level crafter is level 24, and my highest level gatherer is 2. Inventory management and crafting is an actual nightmare, especially with the amount of crafting classes. It's too much, and there isn't enough space. Mats look very similar, It's too much, even with retainer. Game becomes inventory management simulator, like on top of being boring it's annoying. With ESO's crafting bag all your mats are dumped into it, and all you have to worry about is actually having the mats in your bag. In turn I actually have crafting leveled up in that game - not that I play it much.I am levelling my crafters, but I have to comment here because I think you have a point about there needing to be a 'crafting bag' like in ESO... or even do what WoW does and have a specific 'reagent bank' that you don't have to take the mats out of to craft from.
