This is a japanese game man, in Japan Kawaii culture is fine for all ages, if its cute you can like it from 2-80 in Japan, don't put you're judgement on them, they're trying to fan service the japanese into staying with the game right now. Maybe we'll get some fan service later, but they make up more population now.

Okay. I'll give you that. I actually like most of their recent cute additions. But it's really not everything this game needs. It seems to me like kawaii-esque gear and models would be more suited to event items. I just think the game could use some more solid content as much as, if not more than, "fan servic[ing] the [J]apanese."

I really support this. I really had thought they were steering the game in an exciting new direction back when the Ifrit videos and weapons were first revealed, but as usual they seem to be stepping backwards with the newer additions.

I think the word is "intense" (I must admit that some Grimm fairy tales are quite intense for children's stories)

I would love some intense looking mobs and gear. Dark, oozing, spikes. Terrifying glowing eyes. And that ROAR...

Wait did I just describe Ifrit? Naw... Ifrit ROARS like me getting out of bed. Ha!

But you know what? Intense, dark and terrifying is just as much about presentation as it is about artwork. But SE would never think about just throwing around some Nasty NMs without so much as a word other than, "Strange happenings have been spotted around Eoreza. We urge our beloved adventurers to exercise caution..."

And then throw some massive flesh-eating devil worm into one of the many caves around Halatali. (Boy I would scream...) and that it would move through those many caves around Halatali... and pop only under the gaze of the full moon... and devour people who were carelessly ignorant of the dark glowy eyes that peered at them from the dark. Or perhaps, if the ventured into the tunnels and turned the corner and BAM! there it was.

That's far too adult and sinister and evil for Final Fantasy.

Oh no... SE would never do anything like that.

Remind me to avoid living in your neighborhood. D'=

Now, if a a pudding happened wake up with glowing (or bloodshot..) eyes while ooozing some... pudding..?.. and some dark shadows under its eyes... that might fit your description for an intense mob as well as seem more like the current XIV bestiary.

Speaking of weird eyes, I wish I had a close-up shot of a burble. :x They're so CREEPY. Definitely the most "intense" mob in-game.

Iconic mobs from earlier versions of FF such as worms can easily be reincarnated as NMs and classified as voidkin.

Bloodshot oozing eyes reminds me of some kid with conjuctivitis... Which is just as terrifying as anything else in this world. (Point thy oozing gaze elsewhere, foul creature!) I think Dodore, with it's creepy cloak of fog and scary Mor Dhona theme fits as an intense mob.

Having the music change around the presence of certain mobs can add to the creepy feature. In FFVII one loud toll of a single bell told you everything you needed to know. Right now it may not be possible, but with the right presentation, even a rabid marmot can be intense.
