why are so many people comparing fighting with riding. its not the same thing there is a big difference.
fight whatever you want but you dont just hop on it and ride away.
lore can make a big difference but it will not change the fact that everyone and their grandma is gonna be standing on a gobbue and every other monster as soon as this stuff is released.
that doesnt just happen in a real world. A real world. not OUR world, not ANOTHER fantasy world. in a world, people do things for a reason. not just because they can.
believe it or not people play MMOs because they can take a break from normal life to be in a fantasy world.

Think about that for a second:

"Believing it's another world" means the world you're experiencing feels like an actual world -- Clearly it would be a different world from our earth in a logical stand point, but the reason people like stories like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and (insert billions of disney stuff) is because even though it's fiction, it's like a 'real world'.

I'm pretty sure (or at least, would hope) that when players are using "real" or "real world" in the context of a fantasy game that they're referring to the realism of the fantasy itself (or elements of the fantasy world). Even though games are fantasies there still exist levels of "believability" in them; just like in movies with fictional stories - otherwise they're just straight up bizarre like the shows (and games) you find on Adult Swim o.O

And I heartily agree that complaining about any additions to this game is ridiculous if you are saying it isn't keeping the integrity of the other games. Other games in the lineup have much more over the top things than a CROWN or glowy weapons....hooo boy. Put the game down if you can't handle additions to it, I mean really :\ Go replay the old games if they suit you so much better.

But the Ifrit weapons are too flashy? If your a long time fan of Final Fantasy games, you would know that the series has had it's share of flashy and over the top weapons. Look at cloud. I've never played whatever game he's been in but he has that omg humerously huge sword. How is that possible.

There is nothing wrong with the weapons themselves, but if this is how gaudy stuff looks at lvl 50, what will things look like at level 70, 90, or 100? MMOs need a proper path for growth in the design of weapons as well as their power to ensure that the gear players wear doesn't look completely insane long before they ever hit the final level cap. The Ifrit weapons and now the crowns seemed to shortcut this.

Its more how and when they are added that causes me alarm.

Honestly, now they are more trinkets for people that don't do materia and what not since you can make weapons that are better. And for the gobbue mounts.. I'm sure this is one of the things they are rewarding us with for staying to pay and play.

It's more about them being there to say "Hey I've dont this" not "Hey I'm so much more powerful than you are".

And quit moving so far into the future. We haven't even had our first raise to cap yet... give it time.

I like that general grouping;

Group A: you are a ff fan and you hate gobbue mount, you can't understand us but we're more right than you
Group B: you are a mmo fan and you like ez content and flashy stuff, everything that is cool looking should be added with no care into uh "lore" or "immersion"

How about the ppl who don't give flying load of bat crap what was 'right' in the past? I'm in group C: idc what SE does, as long as its fun, entertaining and challenging. Too many "don't change my perception of this series" BS flying around - its not your series to begin with and they can damn well do what they want to it.
