You'd stick around even if FFXIV doesn't have those things? (and another game did?)
If so, then we have no disagreement. If you like them, give feedback that they should be taken under consideration in the 2.0 design.
In addition, offer a suggestion in how they could be integrated into the world as opposed to shoe-horned into it - like the Goobbue mount apparently is.
You are right about this. I've long said that the series should have been split after FFIX and a new numbering system should have been implemented
for example:
Final Fantasy Series (I-IX), (XII)
Final Fantasy Dramatic Action: (FFX), (FFX-2), (FFXIII)
Final Fantasy Online: (FFXI), (FFXIV)
Final Fantasy Tactics: (FFT), (FFTA), etc..
FFXIV as 14th in the FF series carries some baggage that both cripples it in the larger MMO market and makes it an oddity as a Final Fantasy game.
If SE had just called this MMO "Rapture", nobody would be complaining...but fewer people would have purchased it as well.
Regardless ,this is a Final Fantasy game, whether we like it or not. Those of use who bought this game under that title expect certain things from it. Now granted, SE doesn't really owe us anything. If they wanted to, they could do their best to flush the entire franchise down the toilet by making a ultra-linear sci-fi action game and calling it Final Fantasy. There isn't much we could say about it other than refusing to buy it (or it's sequel) But they'd be shooting themselves in the foot.
However, With FFXIV, Yoshi-P has asked for input from the players. As a fan of the series, I intend to leave feedback that will take the best of the series and build on it. I don't want to see the 14th game in the FF series become the latest MMO 'flavor of the month.'
