Potentially canon is a bit vague as it were, but Hildebrand is cannon. If you choose not to do that quest line, then its whatever, but if you do, it is a 'canon' event from what I understand. Cross over events are a little more complicated though. Most are meta cross overs that cant function within FFXIV. Like Monster Hunter World Cross Over wouldnt be 'canon' to the lore simple because its more meta than lets say the Nier raids, which will more or less be crafted in such a fashion to make them a 'logical' part of the FFXIV story.

Distance aside, Im 100% sure top brass at SE has already sent company wide emails telling devs and workers to under no circumstances comment on the situation in HK due to business reasons. I dont blame em either - looking at a lot of the american companies starting to get a huge load of flak for censoring anything that might be related to the HK protests is probably making it worthwhile to comment on it. Not that the situation with companies like Blizzard isnt warrented though.
