That is less an engine limitation and more a needing to render a hundred or so characters. The total war games are also quite cpu intensive, also because of the number of characters on screen.
Yes, that's true, as well as the limitations of our own connections. I'm tryin to find a reference (not succeeding) that the Luminous Engine as used in XIV carried with it a fair amount of CPU overhead as compared to other game engines. IIRC it was due to the fact it was never intended to be applied to a multiplayer game. I think it was used for XIII first, wasn't it? Anyways, whole thread derailed.
