Example: Let's for the sake of this example that I dislike Matsume. Now, Matsume has done nothing wrong but, I make a thread telling people to b-list him. I photoshop a screen shot of Matsume /t ing me. I make it seem as though he was saying racial slurs and such. People believe me, and Matsume never saw this thread. Soon he is banned. Without warning.

Someonething like this has happened to me before on a Minecraft server. The guy was a Mod and the Admins believed him even though I had never done anything wrong before. They didn't bother looking through the logs to confirm anything, I was just insta banned. And soon, the guy starting banning my friends too. Why did he do this you ask? Just for the enjoyment of watching me and my friends suffer. (Even if I didn't care too much).

Just one more post then. This isn't about asking SE to do anything. I wish they would handle their in-game GM calls a bit more effectively, but that's whatever. It's about being able to share experiences with our server about our server.

Many of you are right in thinking that people will flame just because of some personal beef that has no real influence based on their targets action. This happened a lot on my servers flameboards in FFXI. You know what happened to those people? They were shunned for being assholes.

Starting a flamethread for the sake of flaming someone is the fastest way to get yourself a bad reputation. (accountability)

Starting a flamethread on someone who has time and time again behaved inappropriately, and having others share a similar sentiment, is the fastest to have someone man-up and clean their act, or else risk being a social pariah.

The key to all this is moderators who can sift through the bullshit. SE should do that for their forums anyway. Regardless. I asked a number of times if anyone has a link to a forum that does do this. For all, or just for my server, Besaid. Otherwise, this thread is over. People are just going to continue to argue the same couple of points back and forth for 10 pages like usual anyways. That's the trend on this forum anyways. No offense, forum goers. Just history.

Anyway, if the laws of both the US (where I live) and France (where you live) agree that defamation requires that the statement be false, why wouldn't we assume for the sake of conversation that it's a valid requirement until presented with a case in a different jurisdiction? Especially since I'm certain that the nations' respective laws also relate to their citizens' posting defamatory things online.

Now...None of this was really said by Bowen, nor did he commit any of the 5 or 6 crimes I made it appear he is admiting to. All it takes, is a simple post that has been edited once to make it appear that someone such as Bowen has verbally insulted me and then edited it out later.

The same is true for Screen Shots of players that have done wrong to others. It is very easy to chop up screenshots leaving out and emphasizing the parts one wishes rendering an untrue image of an event.

My point Viridiana, is: Yes the statment should indeed be false in order for defamationg to be commited BUT just because one or twenty players believes a statement to be true DOES NOT MAKE IT THUS. The next 50 players to come along, who may be his friend, can claim that such a statement is false reardless of your screenshots, and the statement will thus be rendered false.

Ya, nobody likes a snitch, grow up. Just cuz u have an issue with someone, you feel that everybody should, so you wish to ostracize him? Theres so few ppl on a given server now atm if he/she is rly that bad than the general population will know. Blacklist him if u got a problem with that person. Or do you feel you must be the server superhero? Come to Palamecia, I love harrassing ppl like you

There's the Player warning threads on Killing Ifrit and Blugator forums - both are public forums that can be used to warn other players of botters / cheaters / players who abuse other players / etc. Although I never had to resort to making a post about a abusive player, there are others who have felt the need to post about a bad player.

Here is a easier solution and one that doesn't create drama.
There is the almighty /blacklist option. It works for me. If it was really that bad - there is the "call a GM option" as well.
The guy will get banned soon enough.

I disagree with this thread...sorry OP >.< I have found that in my years of playing MMO people are so quick to judge based on others words without getting to know the person or the whole story first. I remember how badly I had to deal with FFXIAH and waking up everyday seeing a new "Cesil" thread.

Anyway...if someone wrongs you in some way...usually it is just best to blist them and ignore them, avoid playing with them etc. If they indeed are that bad then yeah, a GM will take care of them or their rep will be ruined in time. I never bother to get involved with those type of threads because I can think for myself...not quick to judge, etc..

Just to let you all know that I'm not interested in this topic just because of one bad experience, I thought I'd update you on the status of the individual. I made a report and /blisted him at the same time the other night. The very next day he was banned for spamming obscenities in /sh in Ul'dah. I assume this wasn't because of my report, but more than one being accumulated too quickly. If you cared anyways.

Oh I see You did the right thing! Heh..yeah usually those types manage to get themselves banned one way or another eventually. I'm glad That happened on my server the other day...lol some guy was going crazy cursing and stuff...then a GM popped and the whole thing died pretty fast.
