Speaking as someone who plays both games, and this isn't to strike at you, but I really have to contest your happenstance to liken the world of Azeroth to the works of Tolkien. Blizzard's writing is more like an insane fever dream that's ripping from Warhammer than it is Tolkien's work.

I like how some that were "Lore can be changed. Why are you against more playable options for other players if it doesn't affect you. I have to agree here. The comparison to Warhammer is apt, considering Warcraft was originally supposed to be a Warhammer campaign. It was rejected and the rest is history.

Games have to have flexible canon, because you have choices. Did the WoL become a Black mage or not? There is no absolute there. You are the WOL in your universe where I am just another adventurer. and vice versa.

Yes, "flexible" canon exists for gameplay reason, but that doesn't mean everything in the game is canon. There are optional contents that affect the MSQ or add to the lore of the world of Eorzea and there are other contents that don't.

I have to agree with this in light of recent events.

Yes, "flexible" canon exists for gameplay reason, but that doesn't mean everything in the game is canon. There are optional contents that affect the MSQ or add to the lore of the world of Eorzea and there are other contents that don't.

The MSQ is not the only canon. Everything in the game your character can do is potentially canon in that that is is something that they could potentially experience. They are things that could potentially happen in the world and could potentially be part of the rich history of the world. There is more to any world than a single story line

On this I can agree. SE does business with China, obviously, but if they've gone full Blizzard then they are good at hiding it. And I'd rather not know right now. Ignorance is bliss. Guessing since this issue isn't going away though that we've only really seen the tip of the iceberg. The entire thing caught fire faster and stronger than I could have ever anticipated. It is on the international stage now and has moved far beyond "this gaming company did x to get more money". More than a few gaming companies have been visibly trembling the last few days and trying to keep their heads down.
