The quests provide you with high quality gear. If reading and traveling around a map is too much for you, it could be that RPGs just aren't for you.I’m a pretty new player so take this from my point of view but I have had some issues with leveling in the game.
Until you get to the final expansion there seems to be no reason at all to do any questing other than the msq. And yeah FFXIV seems to do a great job for story but the problem for me has been that you do very little gameplay or experiencing the world and spend most your time traveling and reading all the story text. So when I get home at night and have an hour or two to play, the last thing I want to do is read and travel around a map so I end up just playing a low lvl gob and doing levees so that I can relax and get some game action.
Am I alone here?
Really? Too much for me? Come on man....
The point was that after working all day I would rather do something other than run around on a chicken or read a bunch of text.

That's the core part of Role Playing Games. That's like going into a restaurant and telling the staff the last thing you want is food or drink. Your playing Final Fantasy and complaining about chocobos. Are you sure FFXIV is actually appealing to you?
I'm not complaining about chocobos or the story. I'm saying that more combat type stuff would be nice as reading and traveling after working all day is not doing it for me. I would like to be more involved if you know what I mean.

Well, there's always the duty roulettes and raid roulettes for that non-stop action and large exp rewards.

Fates provide a bunch of opportunities for combat. Also, try to look for side quest chains. Many of them require combat too.
Finally, Palace of the Dead is all combat. Why don't you attempt to get to the top floor?
Have fun and good luck!

In their defense, most games nowadays are all voiced, including RPGs. Even some of the other ff games are voiced for most of the content. Not much text in 13 or 15.

Bunch of texts is the bread and butter of a typical JRPG though. (And ffxiv ican be considered as a jrpg, just with mmo features)

There’s no point trying to voice opinions that oppose most people on this forum. Most of them will just go along with anything that’s added into the game and defend it no matter what, lol. You’re new to FFXIV so I’ll let you know now, that this is a highly defensive and report-happy community. Much different than any mmo community you’ve been in.
You should be glad there are people who defend the game as there is no point in being in a game forum where no one sees anything worth defending about the game. At least you can still engage with them as opposed to people who are being dismissive like you're trying to be with this post.
If you're worried about being reported, then I suggest that you may have to think about your approach in dealing with people. You’re new to FFXIV so I’ll let you know now, that this is a highly defensive and report-happy community.
I'd say that's a plus for this community, most of the time.Much different than any mmo community you’ve been in.
