well, the game cant read you mind to know when you want to read text or not, thats why its ok to do other stuff, there are as you mention, ways to just relax and leveling other jobs, or you could do crafting, chocobo racing, triple triad, do fates for rewards

there is a lot of content as involved or as story driven as you want, also even yoshi said its ok to go play other games, its easy to catch up on ilvl gear to te poing of progress new content so its ok to relax

I for one, play fighting games (street fighter, KOF and such) to just relax from work

You dont have to do any side quests at all, these are just fillers which you would like to do just for fun.
However i do recommend checking them, because some of them give you a nice rewards which will help you out on getting better gear.

Also dont ignore quests with + on them, because these unlocks content and are pretty engaging, you should do these all.

Straight up there is far too much irrelevant junk to read in the msq. Especially ARRs.

You could quite easily remove I'd say 100 of the quests and there pointless dialogues between the beginning of arr and then end of 2.55 and it wouldn't change the story at all..

Theres like 40 quests between titan and garuda story if I remember. How many of them are actually relevant to the plot.

Until you get to the final expansion there seems to be no reason at all to do any questing other than the msq. And yeah FFXIV seems to do a great job for story but the problem for me has been that you do very little gameplay or experiencing the world and spend most your time traveling and reading all the story text. So when I get home at night and have an hour or two to play, the last thing I want to do is read and travel around a map so I end up just playing a low lvl job and doing levees so that I can relax and get some game action.

    Am I alone here?
Hey bud, had the very same feelings like you when I first started and yes, made a thread like you, and yes the "FF People" told me to go look elsewhere like you lol.

It's definitely not an easy transition to go from typical mmos who basically throw you into the gameplay head in first, with some story that, depending on how it's presented, can barely make an impact or be quite quirky. FF 14 does things differently. Everything is woven into it's story. Its the game's M.O: everything has a reason and thankfully, at least the reasons (sort of, in lore) make sense. Unlike other mmos where things are unlocked the moment you ding the required level, FF14 goes out if it's way to world-build around it, even if all you want to do is hack and slash it.

My advice? Just take it in stride. Keep at it (the msq, that is) and get more dgns unlocked. The more you unlock, the more variety your roulettes will have. Before you know it, you'll end up doing 50-50 gameplay/story to 80-20 and then finally waiting for tasty msq morsels just like the rest of us.

It's a weird shift but it's a good one. Hope you stick with it.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

Well, heres the rub: FFXIV's selling is gonna be MSQ. Or atleast one of its main ones. A lot of the game revolves around this aspect. If youre not big on story (or FF stories) I dunno if this MMO is gonna do it for you. Story is gonna be a big part of this going through. Now gameplay earlier on is a bit slow and easy going, admittedly. As you get higher in levels and get out of ARR, things get better. In the meantime, just grind out the MSQ or buy one of the jump potions.

He's complained about chocobos, traveling, reading and the gameplay. Just what is it about FFXIV that even appeals to him?

Traveling around and reading through quests for story is how you experience a world in a RPG. I'm unclear why you consider grinding through leve quests a better way to experience the world than doing the side quests.

There's more to game play than just combat. Game play is pretty much any activity you do in a game. Glamour, crafting, housing decoration... all forms of game play.

It's fine if you prefer more combat-focused activities but you're going to end up frustrated if you're playing a story-focused MMORPG like FFXIV because so much of the game is based on reading and watching the story unfold. You might want to consider a different type of game to play in your brief evening leisure time and save FFXIV for when you have a few more hours to play.

    Are you serious right now?
    1) I did not complain about chocobos I said I didn't want to run around a map on my chicken after working all day and not having much time.
    2) I did not complain about traveling I said I didn't just want to spend a lot of time running around on a map with not having a lot time.
    3) I did not complain about reading but AGAIN reading with only an hour or two to play.
    4) I said nothing about gameplay at all and that particular quote was about the one class I can't seem to get into and not the game as a whole.
You're spinning things like CNN/FOX man, stop your trash comments and stop putting words in my mouth.
The whole point was that with little time in the afternoon I wanted to be more involved than just running around a map and reading. I don't understand why you're so offended but you need to stop twisting what I said.

    1. You insulted a key mascot of the game by referring to it as a chicken.

If that was the point, then why is your only question

? Cause it really comes off as a trash post when your looking for fellow players to complain with because you didn't actually ask for advice in your trashpost:

Mascot? You're all butt hurt because I refereed to the game's "mascot" as a chicken?
And you have issues with reading comprehension because you're so easily upset when someone says anything negative due to the love of your chicken mount and this game.
It's all good...everyone else seems to understand what I'm saying. You're the only one on attack mode. It's ok though, have a great day....I'm headed home to ride my CHICKEN.
