You mean retconning the lore the same way they did for male miqo'te and duskwright elezen? When it comes to making a race playable, lore means absolutely nothing. That will require retconning lore. As one of the "deals" with Fran and the "queen" is to take in refugees from Robanastre. Many of who were Viera. (and i guess Bangaa weren't welcome)
But we both know that isn't happening and they have no reason too. Being spiteful isn't going to make people change their minds about this.
No matter their excuse, gender locking races in this day and age is 125% unacceptable. They unlocked previously gender locked races, and said they were past doing gender locks. No matter how you try to defend the matter its still hypocritical and unprofessional on SE's part. Had I the chance, I'd sit down and talk with the dev team about how much of a stain this puts on their moral consistency.
It may be a small matter to some, but considering they have made the counter parts for other races for 2.0, its just entirely unacceptable for any reason for them to gender lock again. It needs to be fixed lest they spiral down yet another hole they dug themselves into.
Eh, figured I'd give this thread a break to see if folks would calm the heck down. Seems like they have, how nice.
Anyway, blah blah - the Viera literally already have a backdoor failsafe in regards to lore if they were to be released. A male Viera can and will leave the wood if it requires them to do so. Basically their green word - their spirit, the voice of the wood - commands them. If it tells them to leave in order to save the wood, etc - they will. They will leave to also get help if it means saving the wood. The fact we didn't see males in ShB is just because they wouldn't show a male NPC. Anyway, I believe in the Japanese version they're stated to be like 'terminators/assassins' who actually hunt down those who are threats to the wood.
TLDR: A male Viera will leave the wood if the ends justify abandoning their guard duty in order to save their people and the wood. WoL/WoD is literally the perfect role for them to leave. The lore doesn't need to be retconned - it has a literal explanation for why a male viera can leave without being branded a traitor to the wood. You just won't see any NPCs - and other players mViera characters don't count in regards to your story.
Furthermore, there was some discussion about male Viera being aggressive towards females. They're described as manly and macho, in FF12 - and aggressive to outsiders. Not their females. They are however aggressive to one another as they have to compete with one another for resources and the best places to camp, the kits aren't like this. Seems to be something that they learn with their training. The Viera male we almost meet in ShB wasn't portrayed as being aggressive towards the females, or us; doubt the female warrior would have been happy to introduce us to a bloke who would rightfully shove a spear in our necks even after an introduction. Furthermore, another Viera daydreams about her father - well, rather she falls asleep and mutters about her father. No terrified tone is used - which you think it would be if the males were straight-up GRRRRRRR.
Anywho, have fun folks.

Since Au Ra was mentioned, the writers could alternatively add a quest in the MSQ that has us help male Viera defend the forest, after which they pledge to join our efforts to fight off the Garleans outside the forest. Then have the male Viera added in the next patch. And do the same for female Hrothgar -giving them an introduction through the MSQ before they become available to us.
Then much like we did with Au Ra, continue to have more interactions with male Viera and female Hrothgar individuals through different quests added in later patches and expansions. That way their introduction is explained, while not actually gating the genders behind quests. This would maintain equal treatment across all races in terms of accessibility without breaking in-game lore.

Lore purists telling Square Enix they have to keep the original lore intact of content reimagined in later games don't get the point of the FF series. Reimagining stories, places, magic, races, and characters is part of the charm of Final Fantasy.
Exactly!Eh, figured I'd give this thread a break to see if folks would calm the heck down. Seems like they have, how nice.

I haven't even checked the forum for like a week, and barely checked it before - since I only use this when I am actually playing the game. From just a bit of skimming it looks like things are exactly the same. Actually, it feels like I am reading a page from 100 pages ago.
I actually came back to complain about the falcon mount being added to the event, but I can't find a thread to do it in.

Ow, right in my moral consistency *dies*.No matter their excuse, gender locking races in this day and age is 125% unacceptable. Might need a translator or at least 4 years of japanese first to give them a stern talking down about stains and such.
I didn't even see this post, or rather, read it! I have got to say "moral consistency" yeah...
In so many words that must be the "SE is homophobic" argument again or whatever. I don't think gender locking has anything to do with "morals".
