There is a certain novelty to being able to redo the story on my main that can’t be reproduced by just rerolling a new character. And, considering how alt-unfriendly this game is, a lot of players don’t want to have to roll an alt just to enjoy the story again, anyways.

It’s a pointless feature for YOU just because it isn’t going to vomit experience and Gil at YOU. You should clarify that your argument really only applies to you here, because you have others in this thread proving to you that it isn’t so pointless after all to them.

There are myriads of ways to “progress your character” in the game already. Not everything has to be designed to throw Gil and experience at people, and people have been asking for this kind of feature for years—without the caveat of “make it give me EXP and money”.. Adding experience and rewards to this just makes it a prime target for bots—both RMT and those who want to do scripted leveling.

I do find it ironic that you’re calling my opinion tilted. I could say the same about yours.
It is pointless in the context that hardly anyone will use this feature and we could have had something else that more players could have enjoyed instead. The feature is not worthwhile just cause you really want the same mute character to show up in the cut-scenes. That does not justify all the development time that has gone into this.
Even if you want to rationalize that some people will play the feature, and i will be honest, i doubt even that. Only those with nothing else to do will do it, and once they reach the part they wanted to see they will just stop. If you truly cared about the game as i am sure you think you do, you would recognize this feature is not a good use of resources and it's not meeting player expectations.
