You shouldn't have to spend millions of gil overmelding in order to make something. That's been and insane part of the game since HW.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

All throughout stormblood, i never spent a single gil through the marketboard on materia, except in very limited circumstances. I got all of my materia through the scrip vendors; Every week, i did turn ins and put it towards materia of some form (And doing it over the course of an expansion nets you even more materia as a backup).
Sure, if you want to do it INSTANTLY, then yeah, you'll spend gil on the marketplace; but the same goes if you want to gear up instantly through gear, you have to pay for the lack of time being put in to purchasing gear through tomestones.

That's how they gatekeep you, it's like rich people IRL putting as many obstacles in the way of poor people from getting rich, they have to have systems implemented to help skew the odds in their favor, while telling you something about tight belt buckles and boot straps you need to pick yourself up by. They feel their little chunk of gil making potential is going to tank when a new system comes into place and their E-peen cant handle that.
Not to mention they overvalue their worth and time and belive what they are doing is truly a skill when it is not, they tinker around on a crafting simulator for 15 minutes, make a macro and apply it in game. So with crafting being more accessible their over valuation will become very apparent and they no long can charge higher prices for absurd things.
This all could have been avoided if overvaluing didnt happen and if the game had a bigger Gil sink to remove more gil from the system to better put items within range of newer players. Mostly overvaluation of services rendered.
Aka full set of lvl 80 dps gear should only be about 20-30% over total gross income from MSQ start to finish. That puts content withing reach of newer players and give the ability for more people to have access to materials and equipment thus lowering the cost to produce and improving the overall quality of life per person.
Come on people.
