Eureka wasn't so bad, but endgame in ffxiv is lacking without eureka

Is it truly endgame though? 5.0 is the first part of a two year expansion. People need to chill out. There is much more planned. The best thing to do is get geared up for what's to come.

Unless you do Savage or Ultimate, gear is largely pointless. Take Eureka, for example. It synced us down, thus rendering our BiS sets meaningless until Hydatos, which introduced its own BiS.
