Black Mage does not need to heal nor tank. My BLM can pull a few mobs, Sleep them and casually toss wakeup FIRE in their face one at a time. If you actually look at the other DPS they also have utilities directly linked to survival at low levels. Arcanist has Physick and Titan's shield which is not a panic button.
