Yup, we can't even switch between the two hairstyles that share the same face. Luckily I like the one I use so "I" have no issues, bit it's really questionable how no one thought this was a bad idea.
This should've been our racial gear tbh, there are already items that entirely change the shape of the feet, heck, there's even the werewolf set if it didn't hat those horrendous shin pad things /cry

This is extremely confusing. You mean SE locked certain hairstyles with specific faces for Hrothgar? So if I am Hrothgar and I feel like having a different hair, I would likely have to switch faces? But that takes a fantasia! My condolences to every Hrothgar player out there. They did you dirty.
Lore purists telling Square Enix they have to keep the original lore intact of content reimagined in later games don't get the point of the FF series. Reimagining stories, places, magic, races, and characters is part of the charm of Final Fantasy.
I think Hrothgars are awesome, but their posture is kind depressing. I had hoped it would be more along the lines of the Beastmen from FFX which their posture was more straight-up and proud looking, but what is done is done, I still like the Hrothgar but I think a few tweaks to their design would make it even more better.
Like I said, I think its extremely dissapointing what they did to poor male hrotrgar players. No orange skin colors, no hairstyles and only faces, no good posture, honestly I just wish theyd redesign them and add what they said they were gonna add such as a wolf like face and that theyd make them have the cool things u expect from a beastrace such as four legged walks and the ability to make a tiger, and specially hope theyd get actual hairstyles. But remember, this is just me showing my hatred towards anything that isnt male viera. Guess some thigns on this forum will never change ehThis is extremely confusing. I haven't followed the overall thread, just read the last page.
I'm curious about the new NPC faces - I know I saw someone mention it a while ago. Do you have the name of one (or more) of these NPCs so I can look it up and see what it's doing at a programming level?
It *could* be that they've added a new standard face type (since we can see from the Hrothgar options that the character template allows for at least eight faces even if most races have less), in which case they probably should be able to let players access it, but they could have just added custom faces like for major NPCs. Or maybe it's actually just an unusual combination of standard features.
They don't have changeable hairstyles but that is not the same thing as not having them at all.
Already, the "eight faces" in the character creator are in fact four unique faces with a choice of two hairstyles (or manes, if you insist).
If they design new hairstyles they will have to implement them as new faces with the hairstyles attached, but that doesn't change the fact that they were made - and to actually describe them as "new faces" would be misleading, because the faces would be the same as the ones already available.
Hrothgar character design is basically using the character creation template in ways it wasn't designed to work. The number and type of settings seem to be very rigid, so they can't just add new options. This is extremely confusing. You mean SE locked certain hairstyles with specific faces for Hrothgar? (If races get 'unique' options, eg. Au Ra's glowing eyes, it's at the expense of something else, eg. in that particular case, the racial tattoos that most other races have. See also, the one slider setting that controls muscle/tail length/ear length depending on the race.)
For Hrothgar, they've used what is normally the hairstyle setting (with its linked base colour and second colour for highlights) for fur patterns instead, so hairstyles have been made as an integral part of the face. You only have a choice between two styles for each face, set at character creation, plus a variation for each style that can be changed at the aesthetician - as can the fur pattern and colour.
So yes, no free change of hairstyle, but it's a deliberate artistic decision to create something that doesn't follow standard character design options.
A rather deliberate way of getting Fantasia sales, too.
Rushed out doesn’t begin to describe it.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I think more so rushed for time, so they just retrofitted the faces they had to the hair when they realized the clipping issues. I've been speculating for awhile about that; I think they doubled down. This picture can show an example:
Extra fantasia sales from hrothgar players wanting a slight change is definitely a perk however.
