Gear is overrated, the bikini/reindeer Ifrit Fight

against a boss, a fight with no gear should take you too:

- almost oneshoted
- too many miss, cause no accuracy
- too low damage to kill it before rage-time limit- whatevayouwant....

those contents are senseless.... you guys make me lol so fckng hard, with your explanations.

If a person that has 900+ DEF has same survivability chance as a person that has 90.
If a person that has 60+ Magic ATK potency has same chances at defeating a primal as a person that has 11.
If a person that has all melded Lv45+ Crafting gear with all correct stats melded on his +1 MH tool has same chanses at an HQ result as a person that uses Cotton Shepherd's set with an NQ no materia MH tool.

Stats do make a difference but not a HUGE one and thats pretty much been proven already, the difference is actually so tiny it's barely noticable, sure as hell aint something worth spending all your gil. on and (or) arguing with your friends about.

I still love this game and still go for double melds.. it's fun. but i'm being realistic too

You do the math and see how much more STR he had than me.
We tested for a while on same Lv mobs and almost all hits directed from same side.
We tried Abilities, WS, normal attacks and autoattacks.
We were both disappointed lol.

And no i didnt feel awesome, i felt fooled when i saw that his DMG output wasnt really any better than mine
If anything it was lower in many cases...

Anyway since i see you got a bit aggro i am just not gonna say anything anymore.

I would have to agree that small changes in stats will not ever outdo changes in a players skill level/ability. However we have done testing on the best weapons of each melee class and to say that any crafted weapon outdoes an ifrit melee weapon says to me these players did not have said weapon to test themselves. You can say two people tested side by side but this reveals little to nothing. The biggest test is in the same hands i.e. one player in the same gear testing both weapons. On a parser or just by looking at the average damage numbers popping up with your own eyes the difference is apparent and obvious. This is due to the base damage more then anything else. A +1 double melded demilune bhuj holds not a candle to ifrits axe. Damage difference blaring. Skill will always outdo gear in my opinion, but if what some say is true, then lets see some ifrit or moogle wins naked, and using rank 30s weapons, then tell me stats are broken. As far as HQing gear goes, maybe some do not understand that this game at its core runs off of math, or probabilities. Do a long term study on gear and its effect. A sample of 10 in any scientific study would be laughable, try 10000 and then share results that might then be somewhat objective. Sometimes you go to a casino and come home rich, other times you may come home with not a penny to your name, and yet the odds at the core of those games of chance never change.

I was wearing my Fire Resist gear (+1 earrings, NQ necklace, and Ifrit's Blade). I'm not so sure I would have survived the last phase without them.

Swipes alone were taking off about 1/4 of my HP
Fire Breathe was hitting me for over half my HP

They don't hit me that hard fully geared, so that in itself tells me that stats do something. They may not be very potent, but they are far from worthless. I would hate to think how hard fire breathe would hit me if I had not put my fire resist gear on.

The point of the fight was to wear the bikini's or reindeer outfits and win, not to offer up yet another Lalafell sacrifice.

but of course shift we didnt mind offering you as a sacrifice if it was needed.. no bad feelings and all :P

You need a balance of both attributes to do optimal damage. I haven't tested on Ifrit, but on Moogle it works wonderfully.
