Gear is overrated, the bikini/reindeer Ifrit Fight

Now all the people saying gear and stats don't matter, let's see a group with no pumped attributes and no gear other than their weapon go into Moogle.

SE is giving us different challenges but ppl will always complain.

Let's see a person with the ultimate CRP Gear yield more HQ lumber than a person that is wearing nothing at all :P

I a Lv 24 LTW made 1/5 HQ boar leathers while a friend Lv50 LTW made 0/12.
I was wearing some Lv 21 Cotton stuff while he was wearing 45+ gear with a double melded Head Knife.
All i am saying is i would much rather see him pull off something like 3/10 and me 0/5...

And it aint complaining really.. just facing the facts after a long time of trying to get some kind of clarity from any of the stats while working on various stages of the game...

Anyway as far as me testing my lance with guys that say they can outdamage me with their Ifrit's Tumor & Junk looking Hauby + Turban (lol) look score is Yuri - Guys 2 - 0 so far :P

Vote and i'll make a vid about it guys.

And to not forget IMO..
All of the above about stats not working correctly is just my opinion, everyone is entitled to theirs ofcourse.

This is happening because your total stats aren't better then the other guy's right? Its just that you're awesome therefore you are doing better dmg.

Me:
Skull eyepatch +3
Tortoiseshell Scale Mail (Crit materia)
Cobalt Vambraces (+ 18 STR)
Felt trousers ( 7 STR + 7 DEX)
Bladedancer's Jackboots
Penance

and 3x Garnet rings
Champion's Lance +1 (Crit materia)

the one guy's set was this:

Sipahi's Turban
Cobalt Hauby (Crit materia)
Cobalt Mitt Gauntlets (+ 31 STR)
Felt Trousers (14 STR + 14 DEX)
Cobalt Solleretts
Peisteskin hunting belt
and 3x Garnet rings
Ifrit's Harpoon

You do the math and see how much more STR he had than me.
We tested for a while on same Lv mobs and almost all hits directed from same side.
We tried Abilities, WS, normal attacks and autoattacks.
We were both disappointed lol.

And no i didnt feel awesome, i felt fooled when i saw that his DMG output wasnt really any better than mine
If anything it was lower in many cases...

Anyway since i see you got a bit aggro i am just not gonna say anything anymore.

well i dont want to comment on the stats, but stuff LIKE this is done in every FF title before right ? like FFX no sphere grid, finish FFX-2 with ONE character, or FF9 with Lv1 party .... etc you get the idea

maybe stats are broken but challenges like this should be do able even if they aren't, because there will be people who are willing to do it anyway

i disagree, i think you should be killed in one hit with no gear on. The battle aspect of an mmo pretty much revolves around gear. whats the point if it doesn't really do anything.

I ain't aggro at all Yuri. If you're doing better dmg than another, there's got to be something influencing it.
From my experiences stats aren't broken, and I would like my eyes open if they indeed broken.

I would like to see SS of gear/attribute window, parse results.
Or if anyone could point me to a parser that's known to capture the additional fire dmg on ifrit's weapons, i'd like to test this out myself.

Just goes to show you this game can't be taken seriously. What other sub-based MMOs let's you do this?

I dunno, I like that gear does add some benefit but I like that skill > gear even more, and there are plenty of sub based MMOs that skill > gear but usually they are very heavy PvP games.

Just saying ifrit shouldn't be a joke. yeah when it comes to meters in games/pvp you'll notice a difference in skill for pvp.
Then again it's not like ifrit really takes that much skill anyways.

i agree skill>gear but i also think skill with no gear should = fail. If i spend the loot and take the time to really gear up my character i want it to be worth it.

well the thing is Ifrit is 100% skill based fight, he does 2 melee attacks which are his lowest hitting attacks, everything else is magic damage which there is already very little defense against even fully geared. Fight is all about placement and movement no one but the tank should take any damage outside of hellfire which even if fully geared you have very little defense against anyways.

So really its because of the fight mechanics that make it possible to do this fight naked. Now try this with a fight that is mostly physical damage and I think you will notice a big difference.

I was wearing my Fire Resist gear (+1 earrings, NQ necklace, and Ifrit's Blade). I'm not so sure I would have survived the last phase without them.

Swipes alone were taking off about 1/4 of my HP
Fire Breathe was hitting me for over half my HP

They don't hit me that hard fully geared, so that in itself tells me that stats do something. They may not be very potent, but they are far from worthless. I would hate to think how hard fire breathe would hit me if I had not put my fire resist gear on.

The point of the fight was to wear the bikini's or reindeer outfits and win, not to offer up yet another Lalafell sacrifice.
