Ruin I/II spam maybe but not if you were going through your rotations optimally it wouldn't at high levels. Sure you could pop Diversion, but after it drops you would be back to taking aggro from Titan. That pet could not be compared to an actual player tank who had access to multiple actions to use/weave and keep aggro.

Did those of you who say they had no problem with changes in 5.0

To continue from the title. For those quests and such that some of us are having problems with. Did you stand still, stay at your spot while "sucessfully" completing the mention quests? Or did you move around alot to avoid getting too much damage when multiple mobs were involved? I wonder what the overall success rate is for players now with the changes made to summoner?

Per previous post, level 63 and beyond, no kiting from me. By the time I've reached a point where I might decide kiting would make a difference, it wouldn't make a difference (i.e. health is low enough that it wouldn't matter).

It's important to note that the pre-72 kit SMN had before 5.0 was much stronger than what they have now. SMN is overall weaker than they were at 4.5 and FBT added a ton of burst, so they took away damage in various other places. Like pets being far weaker, bio and miasma losing 20 potency each, losing an entire dot at some point (not sure which patch), DWT giving a 10% damage boost, etc.

So that's just another point of balance that's out of whack for SMN class quests. Saying you did them "before 5.0" is quite literally irrelevant to this thread anyway since its the 5.0 changes that made them awful.

I've been seeing posts that compared to physical dps, especially with the new NIN and SAM buffs, ranged dps has really been slipping in terms of being able to do enough decent damage to actually matter when it comes to most content. I've yet to attempt the quest since I made this thread, but I'm going to buy better armor, also trying leveling my SCH, since I actually enjoy that class, and hopefully try to recruit a tank to help me out, if that's even an option. I can only really hope that the buffs to Ruin to where I don't have to use Miasma or Bio to do more in terms of putting out damage actually help me survive these attacks, which I highly doubt that they will. If I fail, I can only really hope that they either fix the pets to do more damage or something like that, or they rework the quests to make it easier, because right now, they're just not working like originally intended. It's incredibly frustrating and annoying, and I can only imagine the frustration new players will encounter if they decided to stick with SMN to do story content, especially if they don't really like healing.

Ever since they retooled pets to where they couldn't tank, much less even be detected by enemies, a lot of the SMN job quests have become incredibly hard to solo. Take, for example, A Book with Bite. That quest asks you to defeat an enemy that does at least 3000 damage per hit, as well as giving you poison with extremely high potency. You can tell that with this level of damage that this quest needs a tank to distract the enemy while you do the dps. However, since Titan-Egi is no longer considered a tank, you're the one taking the brunt of the damage.
This makes the quest incredibly difficult, as even the shield you can give yourself is destroyed in one hit. There's also another quest, A Minor Negotiation, in which the enemies are very difficult to kill as well, doing high amounts of damage. While it's doable, it is incredibly hard as well, especially when you hit the search location with three enemies waiting. It is at that point I was reduced to casting pet abilities while spamming Physick. It's just really difficult and frustrating, and this is the only time I've run into issues with job quests.
Am I the only one who is running into problems like this and I should "git gud", or is this an actual problem that others have run into? Please let me know, and also give me some tips, if you have any, that I can use to defeat this enemy, because I'm going to have to put leveling my SMN on hold until I can actually defeat this quest.

And what did the BLM do in your opinion?

Can't say, I haven't even got BLM past level 30. I'm trying to level other classes so the people I play with stop bitching about the fact that we're loaded on healers, so I was trying my hand at all the DPS I could get my hands on. Unfortunately BLM fell by the wayside for me.

Old thread, I know (and first Google threw at me), but in just doing the first two Stormblood quests for SMN, I'm inclined to say that the quests are still overtuned given changes to the classes. I know some wanted to question gear or rotation, but in my case, was fully augmented Shire gear. The first fight ended with me being around 10-15% HP with the second quest's batch being relatively similar, waiting between each pop as it would be obvious death if I didn't. Overall, I can understand if those in a lesser gearing situation would be having trouble.

Mechanically, I'd probably say cutting the mob damage by 15-20% and reducing their HP by 30% would do the trick. They'll probably still be rough for those using the L60 coffer gear, but a healer chocobo would likely take the edge off. Otherwise, this is definitely one of those times where endgame-minded changes affected the early game negatively, imo. Though, perhaps this will happen intuitively with the ilvl squish they mentioned with EW.

This is absolutely an issue with design in the quests. They're made for pet tanking. Even with Titan's shield and reasonable at-level armor, the level 60 quest is a mess with a mob that can take you out in 5-6 hits with shields. Had to kite it around the nearby crystal and just barely survived. It's a noticeable spike in difficulty from the HW60 final SMN quest and the SB60 initial SMN quest.

I prefer the old Titan-egi over no tank. Was so much fun. Why SMN isn't allowed to versatile like in so many other FFs I don't understand. :|
