I also like how it spreads a little bit of lore about the locales in FFXIV and not just focuses entirely on Thancred. In Sharlayan espionage is not only expected but encouraged, you can even get the equivalent of a PhD in what is essentially Book Theft. In the First the depiction of colours is reversed with a holy and chivalrous knight culturally being understood as donning black armour rather than white as it is in our world, which makes me think towards the garb Minfillias are made to wear being this hostile colour to the First. Eulmore has subterranean levels that, if we are to take the text literally, are carved into large (likely dead) reef coral.

A "reef" can also be a rock ridge - which sounds more likely in this scenario. A coral reef would be a bit porous for carving subterranean caverns into it.
