Because it's literally the same logic. Our original self is not really us but something we once were with entirely different thoughts, appearance, memories, everything. The kid from the 14th is also a part of us. We, the WoL/D are not a child either nor did we share the same parents as said kid.

If Hades had a fling/thing/anything with who we used to be, it is not us personally. But as the player, you could accept or deny this as feelings carried over without diminishing that aspect.
Personally it's not upsetting in anyway, shape, or form. I simply voiced an opinion for us to be given a choice and not have it be shoved down our throats. I can be happy for those that want that kind of development for their characters past, but it shouldn't come at the expense of others that may want otherwise, especially if we're potentially getting a glimpse into our former selves past here. Let us decide how to shape it, even if it's done via minor choices of simple yes and no options. As for why Arbert's establish history gets a pass? Well a bit of his relationship to his comrades was already cemented in the lore books, so that ship had sailed. They just fleshed out more information and details on what were in those pages. Whereas with our whole self we know so little and nothing has been set in stone just yet. Also the fact that these aren't actually our WoL/D isn't lost on me, but it is still our story.
