This is bound to cause vitriol in some people but anyway:
DPS checks. I know the whole point of them is a way of putting the brakes on players speedrunning (which is also the reason for enrage timers), but it utterly fails at that and players speedrun through dungeons and trials anyway, forcing non-DPS-centric classes to DPS (and created the whole stupid "Healers=DPS" meta). Rather than DPS classes actually doing their jobs and, you know, DPS a little bit better and faster, it's easier to just say "Tanks and healers DPS too!"
Quicktime Events during trials. I mean, seriously? QTEs are the bane of gaming because they're such a silly gimmick trying to create 'interactivity' to a cutscene. Except they do not fit the middle of a trial battle at all: it literally becomes "Press O as fast as you can to not die". It's not about how good you play your class or Job, it just becomes a test at how fast you can hit a button. And it especially does not work in a MMO environment where one person slipping up wipes the entire party. For no other reason other than they couldn't mash a button fast enough.
How the Armoury System has been reduced to a confusing, convoluted mess with half a dozen different experiments added to it that never worked as they should, a result of SE trying to appeal to players demanding it be something like the FFIII/V/XI/Tactics Job System, not realizing it's original system of 'the weapon is your class and a Job upgrades from that' idea worked well enough. As it stands it's basically impossible to explain the whole system to a new player now due to all the alterations and exceptions to it (you start as a class that upgrades at level 30 to a Job but one class has two Jobs, and one class you can't start as but have to unlock at level 10, and then there are Jobs which don't have classes and start at a higher level, and then there is the 'Limited Jobs' etc etc). To say nothing of role abilities and people still using old guides which lists the scrapped cross-class ability system.
