Parser's equip and empower garbage people. I used parsers myself in WoW; I wish MMO communities weren't terrible and I could use parsers for this game on the PS4. This community is terrible, though. Let me be clear, I'm not actually condemning parsers; it's the community that sucks.

Hard to imagine he was just taking a very strong account of visual cues.

As for all the other random instances I've seen, I suppose it's possible they're not all meter related. The comments are never "you should try doing this," it's always just a stupid little jape about how their damage sucks or they're not contributing, being carried, must've bought their character, etc.
Well, if you died its actually the most obvious scenario of you dealing less damage than the healer, even without a parser running - dead = no damage at all. If you did to a mechanic you could have avoided or dealt with incorrectly, that is on you. Refsuing to communicate with your party makes matters a lot worse, because its even more frustrating for them if they cant be sure if they're playing with a bot or troll or someone who did pay their way to that dungeon right now.

Harrassment is reportable and it would obviously be prefered if everyone just gave friendly advice, but at a certain point that seems to be a joke... I dont know what dunegons you're having in mind but I recently explained to a level 80 RDM in a level 80 dungeon to use their AoE-rotation. And I kinda regret not just silently removing them from the party by now.

I guess the healer was using some kind of parser because he mentioned that I was doing around the same amount or more as the DPS jobs were and gave the amounts. Unfortunately even mentioning numbers in any context, or implying you're using a parser is enough to be reported and temp-suspended. An FC mate's friend got suspended because after a trial, someone asked if they could be told their own numbers and the friend said they'd send a tell. Just that was enough for someone to decide to report.

Exactly, people who use parsers to just 'call people out' in normal content, suck, and if you think about the number of people who do use them - how many of them are toxic? Considering there are a golden rule regards to them, don't ask, don't tell. Those who call you out and bring to light they're using a parser are in the minority. People can get banned for using them, or rather using them incorrectly. How to solve the situation? If they bring up the parse, mention your numbers - etc, report them. If anything it teaches them not to do it again.

As for how communities go, haha nah. ESO the damage meters aren't even against ToS, and SWTOR community is just toxic by default. FF14 is like running through a flower garden.

There's people out there with good intentions, but it remains against the rules strictly speaking.
I've love to point out people that they are not performing as well as they think they are, heck I'm conscious about my performance as well these days to make sure I'm playing at least at a decent enough level.
But the ToS is clear : you cannot use this against people.

And I understand the reasoning. It prevents more drama, and that means we have to deal with bad players now and then

Asking people to carry their weight or telling DPS they aren't doing enough damage and need to do more does not mean you are using "damage meters". Also, it isn't harassment.

No. Parsers are mainly used in raid-settings and static-groups, so people who care about their performance and about not letting their group down have a tool to tell what they need to improve and have some data on which they can base their analysis on how to improve that on.

Personally I experienced the overall community of this game as pretty welcoming, supporting and friendly - given that you do your part, including making sure you have appropriate gear, a general knowledge of your job (that is appropriate of your current level) and of the general mechanics the game throws at you. It also includes communication with your party - saying "sorry", "hello", "I'm new" and "I'm open to any advice!" can go a long way. At least thats my experience.

Again, it was like a level 40 something MSQ dungeon and my first run. I died to a mechanic; the boss died anyways; the other DPS decided to get condescending because he saw my damage was lower than the healers.

Specific advice I'm fine with. Just throwing a "you suck" out there I'm not fine with; and I feel like the only reason anyone would even mention damage in a 40 something MSQ dungeon is to insult someone.

The parser is not bad. The person using it to grief people is bad. We need to get out of this mentality of blaming inanimate tools for shitty human behavior.
