"Just because the writer said so" isn't an argument, of course it is, everything in a story is.

When I say: "Just because the writer said so", it is because it did not occur organically from within the story. A well set up story can effectively write itself.

He was an experiment by the Garleans to test their artificial echo. As we know, the Echo gives us our insane power. Zenos has the artificial Echo AND is the descendent of an unsundered Ascian. How is it so hard to believe with both of those that he wouldn't be insanely powerful?

Zenos did not always have the Echo since it was a development during Stormblood and yet he was already one of the most powerful characters in the game.

Just because its not told yet don't mean it didn't happen. You don't know what zenos childhood was like, what training he faced or even what challenge he overcome to be here. Neither you did with Ran'jit, we are told he's an experienced warrior period.

You can argue we miss some info about the past of Zenos, but saying he's strong for no reason is wrong.

Well, you dismissed every ingame explanation for it, what do you want more ? Its pretty well documented ingame he have gone throught a lot of experimentation to enhanced his strenght even before the echoes one, being drunk on power, being an overwhelmingly destructive wild card is pretty well explained already. Just go check the wiki already.
