First of all, there is something called product/franchise identity, a branch of the so-called corporate identity. Certain things grew to people, have connections with them and should be the anchors of a franchise/company/brand.
Final Fantasy has brought up many iconic looks, armor sets, professions ("jobs") that granted the franchise their success. You can not go and change it just because you "feel like it".
They are obviously so far off ANY profession and a mere disguise, they have nothing to do. I also start to think Squeenix adds those to keep the profession attires "clean" by having those ridiculous designs so far off any taste that anyone - even those potential players outside of the game, e.g. via a Google image search - know this is not the actual style of the game's core content and thus not a Halli Galli Clown Fiesta, but still a Final Fantasy title.But, but them frog suits!!!1
See picture above and explanation. That is like having a chef wearing the same outfit as the waiter just because they both work in a restaurant.But, but we want to wear Final Fantasy piece of clothing A together with Final Fantasy piece of clothing B. This is all within the game's style, so your argument is invalid!!
Yes, because even in the FF universe, you won't see a tank running around with white satin gloves for good reasons. The RDM duellist attire* is not made of heavy materials but cloth and leather to make us nimble for our melee combat, and archers* do not wear heavy armor either. Dragoons* do not wear silk and satin, do they? Because it simply does not make sense. A tank running around in a nightgown, sorry, white mage robe?Did you just compare real life with a video game??? OMG, you must be from Balmung!!
Speedos and bikinis, well, since there is no "leisure time" character class where you could restrict thongs to, they have to be equipped somewhere. And forbidding to display underwear would also mean our clothes are stitched into our skins and we never can take them off. So they are basically a "by-product" of the freedom to put off clothes instead of wearing each set 100% 24/7.
But else >> see image above.
* By their profession design
See corporate/product/franchise identity above. The Regalia is within the franchise and FFXIV has a lot of steampunk going on (e.g. the Castrum with those bright blue and red LED tubes as lighting fixtures).Whoo needz da immerzionz?!
Of course we could add a funky story about the DooM's cyberdemon into the game, because...
No, just no.
Sincerely,
