First of all, there is something called product/franchise identity, a branch of the so-called corporate identity. Certain things grew to people, have connections with them and should be the anchors of a franchise/company/brand.
Final Fantasy has brought up many iconic looks, armor sets, professions ("jobs") that granted the franchise their success. You can not go and change it just because you "feel like it".

    But, but them frog suits!!!1
They are obviously so far off ANY profession and a mere disguise, they have nothing to do. I also start to think Squeenix adds those to keep the profession attires "clean" by having those ridiculous designs so far off any taste that anyone - even those potential players outside of the game, e.g. via a Google image search - know this is not the actual style of the game's core content and thus not a Halli Galli Clown Fiesta, but still a Final Fantasy title.

But, but we want to wear Final Fantasy piece of clothing A together with Final Fantasy piece of clothing B. This is all within the game's style, so your argument is invalid!!
See picture above and explanation. That is like having a chef wearing the same outfit as the waiter just because they both work in a restaurant.

Did you just compare real life with a video game??? OMG, you must be from Balmung!!
Yes, because even in the FF universe, you won't see a tank running around with white satin gloves for good reasons. The RDM duellist attire* is not made of heavy materials but cloth and leather to make us nimble for our melee combat, and archers* do not wear heavy armor either. Dragoons* do not wear silk and satin, do they? Because it simply does not make sense. A tank running around in a nightgown, sorry, white mage robe?

Speedos and bikinis, well, since there is no "leisure time" character class where you could restrict thongs to, they have to be equipped somewhere. And forbidding to display underwear would also mean our clothes are stitched into our skins and we never can take them off. So they are basically a "by-product" of the freedom to put off clothes instead of wearing each set 100% 24/7.

But else >> see image above.

    * By their profession design

    Whoo needz da immerzionz?!
See corporate/product/franchise identity above. The Regalia is within the franchise and FFXIV has a lot of steampunk going on (e.g. the Castrum with those bright blue and red LED tubes as lighting fixtures).

Of course we could add a funky story about the DooM's cyberdemon into the game, because...

    No, just no.

    Sincerely,

    - I could dress in an all out Moogle costume and be a tank , a healer or dps...go mine and then craft. Same goes for some of the other costumes they have the chocobo suit, the Christmas outfit, Halloween outfits..pig costume , etc
    - IF ifs ok for me to look like that and still play what I choose, then I fail to see the taboo of a tank wearing a robe or a healer wearing a suit of metal armor.

-with so many lol costumes, "immersion" can not be used as an excuse.

    - IF they must restrict anything then AF only, but a nice compromise would be ALL other dungeon/crafted//tome/scrip/quested gear should by now, be interchangeable between all DOH/DOL, DOM/DOW jobs equally 100% imho.

    Healer reporting for duty.

    Let's go confuse everyone.

(But seriously, as much as more freedom would be nice, it's also fun to subvert the existing restrictions like this.)

Sorry but any cries of class/job identity are hypocritical. You can tank in your frelling underwear! Papalymo and Ida wore plate. Fix that crap or just be quiet and lift the restrictions devs.

Speaking of Makai, so many items are shared across several sets, but since they are job locked you have to take up several slots in the dresser for the same item!

Let's face it. The only gear that's *actually* related to job identity is the job relic gear. That stuff can stay locked to the specific job. Nothing else has anything to do with job identity, unless you actually think that ammo belts and satchels perfectly suit Bards and Dancers...

Immersion? I don't feel immersed as a Dancer with all the ranger armors they present us.

Plus, there are more tanks wearing bikinis amd cloth armors in this game than actual plate armors.

It's a shame that some players want to keep this restriction over having more options to make yourself more different to others. I guess they're creativity to what their avatar should look like is so basic, that they cannot think to even start with more armor skins.

The irony is a lot of the Ninja sets suits Dancer a LOT more than the Aiming sets, yet SE decided to lump Dancers in with rangers and now a lot of the gear Dancers wear either look like cowboy sets or wilderness survival sets.

I don't quite get this logic - there's a difference between the gear available to the class and the gear you wear playing that class.

Yes, I do think dancer should have been paired with ninja, and they have more gear that would have been suitable. But we're stuck with bard/machinist/dancer sharing gear whether we like it or not.

Ideally, with three classes sharing the same gear but not aesthetics, one-third of gear should be appropriate for each class (or one-quarter each and the rest is stuff like the Shisui swimwear and Nomad robes). That inherently leaves a lot of unsuitable outfits from the perspective of any one class. "I'm a machinist, why are three-quarters of my gear based on fantasy archer outfits and pretty dresses?"

Shared gear can never cater for any one class all the time. You just hope they keep it balanced, and if you got sci-fi armour as "dancer" gear this time, you glamour straight over it with the relic gear or the Brightlinen Himation or the exclusive Makai dress or any of the previous sets that DO suit dancer.

There always have been, and always will be, gear for every class that doesn't suit the class - and a very easily available solution.
