I worried about the same thing, peeps coming into the game with so many closed communities on the server.

    The Solution:
    Adopt a Newb

A couple of weeks ago, while mindlessly crafting, i noticed a shout from someone saying "I need a friend! Everyone left "
Then the person popped up on my screen while i was running towards the wards, stopped and talked to him. I then made a linkshell so he could communicate with me easily. At this pont... we need to keep as many peeps playing the game as possible, so always lend a helping hand.
In a way, this community may be more closed off by the time 2.0 rolls out than many MMOs before it. What would be worse than a huge group of new people joining, injecting some more life into the game, only to be run off by the current player base? Trying to buy low level gear right now on my server is ridiculous. It has certainly gotten better since the introduction of a history but, there aren't enough low level things for sale in the Ul'dah wards to make a head to toe outfit from cheaply at the optimal level. Things like that will only get worse as SE brings out higher level content that moves the current and only player base foward. We have the makings here of some serious gaps in wealth and class that could easily hinder new players and their first time experience with the game.

Your suggestion to adopt a newb is spot on, and exactly the kind of attitude any of our communities could use.

I personally don't see a giant issue legacy players will cause to the game when it relaunches. We are a small community considered and let's say for hypothetical reasons they don't merge servers until 2.0 there will be around...at best 600ish members per server who are legacy players.

As long as a large enough number of new players emerge I don't see the old community being able to harm the newer players a whole lot.

Hell if they do merge servers there is a high chance when 2.0 Re-Launches the game there will be a few servers with 0 legacy players to let the server start fresh without the interference of the older players until a few months into the launch when they allow us (legacy players) to move around the servers.

Thanks for posting this. I wholeheartedly agree. The new search function is highly functional, but underutilized. I do put up my flag whenever I'm not doing LS things, including a list of my preferred classes and activities in the search comment. I've actually gotten two invites this weekend on Wutai using this system, so at least some people are moving toward it. Hopefully this does make it easier to operate largely out of the other cities. Even though the markets in Ul'dah dominate commerce, I think the primary reason for many players staying in Ul'dah is for those very shouts you mention. I'll also try to put out some gear for patch days and 2.0 launch, though I'll probably Hasty Hand it.

One good community idea that some people have been picking up on is using the price to indicate the potency of materia, e.g. I would sell a Vitality IV with +17 VIT for XXX,017 and would sell a Sagacious Might III with 36 bonus magic crit damage for XXX,036.

Oh! I'm sorry your thread got derailed. There's a lot of grouchiness on these forums sometimes.

Thats actually an awsome idea with the materia communication. And hasty handing low level gear still gets the job done! Although saying it that way sounds a little dirty lol

some people like myself are gonna flood the market with cheap low level gear when 2.o comes out so i dont think this is gonna be as bad an issue as you may think it will be

it only takes 1 person to do it too regardless of how many see it as a profit machine

Yeah, i suppose i should have figured that even with the low population numbers as a whole, most of the people that have stayed have the entrepreneurial spirit. I remember when the game first came out, EVERYONE was crafting. FOr a while it looked like every nation was preparing to go to war. It was awsome. I bet once the PS3 gets close, we may see a bit of this with people making a ton of gear for relaunch. Regardless whether its for profit or just to help out, it would be nice to be able to gear out some other low level jobs appropriatly instead of running around looking like someone colorblind dressed me.

I get the point of your thread OP but no one in the history of MMO's have been able to single handlely change the minds of the masses, unfortunately people are just too 'stubborn' to accept 1 view.

There are bitter vets and helpful vets, I suppose the best you can hope for is there is more helpful ones than bitter ones when 2.0 hits.

Search function is already used (at least in Besaid) quite a lot.
However at the moment it is mainly used for pick up groups for Ifrit and Moogle fights. It is really handy for that reason too though since usually when you search for a person for one of the fights, you are already at the area of the fight so you wouldn't be able to start shouting anyway.
I don't think it has much to do with people's inability to use the search but everything with the fact that there is not much reason to "search" at the moment.
We have 200 people online 32 of them are doing Ifrit (4 parties) 32 of them are doing moogle, 70 are crafting, 30 are gathering, 16 are doing stuff with their ls (2 parties) and other 16 are already in some level exp parties.
This leaves 4 unfortunate people walking around in Uldah, putting up their search flag and wondering what to do next.

Regarding the legacy we leave behind.. I have to say I grinned a bit when I read this... I think no matter what we "decide" to do, things are going to forge their ways one way or another.
In 11 it was a known annoyance that when you had a JP in your exp party, they would go {I'm Sleepy} and they would disband and warp the same second. Or you would have the person leaving find himself a rep and more often than once we had a WHM rep himself with a DRK...

Good players (even noobies after 2.0) will always be good and then there will be the douches that will stay douches even if you boil them for 24 hours.

And yeah, like someone said above... The Market Wards will be FULL of gear when 2.0 comes out. I have already started to make my own fashion line

When V2.0 being released (and if it succeed worldwide commercially), a huge influx of new players will comes in and they will set their own economy for lower tier equip/items without the need of the veterans, this is few things i am not worried about.

Economy for new players will only take a downfall if the game doesn't get anymore input of new players in respectable amount (see FFXI 2 years after launches, a very user un-friendly game for newcomer and lack of advertisement outside japan).

Ul'dah being a mainhub is also not something i am worried about, community always chooses their own main-hub, it happens in every game. When Ishgard comes out, that will be the new hub assuming all new contents starts there, this is something inevitable.
