I get the point of your thread OP but no one in the history of MMO's have been able to single handlely change the minds of the masses, unfortunately people are just too 'stubborn' to accept 1 view.

There are bitter vets and helpful vets, I suppose the best you can hope for is there is more helpful ones than bitter ones when 2.0 hits.

Great point! I think we have a special community just like in ffxi. The longer we stick to this game, the more we will see these helpful people. I don't think we "need" to change things single handedly but lets all do our small part. The puzzle will come together as the best community ever. I, for one, think we need some kind of in-game LS searching tool for noobs. Is there one? idk i am noob haha!

I think the end of the free trial was one of the best things that ever happened to this game.

The player-base is now largely made up of people who care about the game and want to see it and the dev-team succeed with 2.0.

This will only mean good things for the future.


On the low-level gear prices.. well, its simple supply and demand economics. As demand dropped (more ppl reaching 50 and the easy access to U/U items from NMs), the supply began to drop as well (no point in crafting or using a retainer slot for something you won't sell). The supply was further diminished as used items never saw the secondary market due to the fact that much of it was changed into materia.

So now you have virtually no supply, and very little demand. When you are the only seller of an item, you set the price. So crafters try to corner virtually dead areas of the markets with their overpriced goods in hopes that they will make some good gil. But it is done at the cost of a retainer slot that could be used to sell something more popular. If nobody buys the item at the inflated price, eventually the price will be reduced or it will be taken off the market. If enough people buy the item at the inflated price, other crafters will try to get in on the action and then the price will begin to drop.

My advice: If you really want low level gear for cheap, just craft it yourself. You can set yourself up well by leveling whatever class you need (Cloth, Leather, Armorer, Blacksmith, and Carpenter) to 12~ish in a few hours using leves, and make your own gear that should get you to the lvl 25 U/U stuff. In addition, you can then start to craft things to sell, undercut the price-gougers out there, and maybe make a pretty gil yourself~

I agree, we now have a population of people on each server that WANT to be playing and aren't just playing because its free. Now if SE would just let us do some world transfering, we can finally start putting together servers with some real active numbers before the 2.0 client drops. My hope though is that older players start coming back this summer after a few more kick ass updates.

sidenote: dont forget when making low level gear for most new players that u may as well skip up to the mid teens or low 20s. i made some low lvl crafting sets for a couple new players and they outgrew them within the hour.

One of my very favorite things to do is help newbies out. I love answering that /shout that asks a question, sending them a tell, helping them find the gear/npc/whatever they needed. I have several people on my friend list that I probably helped out once and now they have more 50's than I do.

I have found a few things in this regard to be helpful. By buying gear at level 10 and again at level 17/18 that is all classes, and optimal level gear, you can make low level gear sets that are good for each class until 20. This not only saves space, but you essentially only need to change weapons and your good. You can take a bunch of jobs from 1-10 just grinding outside town without ever needing to come in.

Hell, you can pretty much grind 1-10 naked or do 3 leves without an gear but your weapon and be good if you know what your doing.

Plus you save yourself from a huge laundry bill later. All that Squirrel and Coblyn blood, who needs it?

The way i see, the only solution is a total reset. And i hope they do it!
