    Vote for GNB Sounds

"Do you want the original Gunbreaker sounds back?"

    http://www.strawpoll.me/18398181/r

Idk about anyone else, but I'm not giving up. They haven't changed the sounds back as of 5.05 and I refuse to accept a change. I not only didn't ask for this, but even FOUGHT TO DEFEND THE SFX ORIGINALLY. So, I've started a poll, put a captcha to make sure no one cheats and bots it to death.

I understand everyone has a differing opinion too, like some would just like to see the keen edge combo, some would like to see old sounds but more boom, some want current sounds but louder slashes... Etc. We're being picky and I don't think SE is going to suit the individual, I think they are going to stick to one or the other and not waste anymore resources on something that some consider "mundane". That said, I've made this poll simple, do you want the old sound effects back? Yes or no. Feel free to comment below your choice, why you selected it, what you wish you could have, or what you would do personally.

I will keep this thread or any of the other 50 of "these kinda threads" alive until I see something done. I'm a passive person when it comes to most changes and have faith, but for some reason this is something I cannot just "accept". I have faith they'll help healers out like they have for now, I have faith they'll make adjustments to some of the DRK issues people are having eventually, I think Shadowbringers overall was outstanding, but the audio for GNB, I need what was shown to us and given to us originally... it's simple. So, let's see what support it has, show your friends, discords, all that.

I would accept if they rework the sounds to something else, but something that sounds good and fits the job. That thing we have now is a joke. I just cannot believe that someone in the dev team thought "Yeah, that sounds good". I have already sent them another in-game suggestion that this thing is simply unacceptable.

And Job Action Trailer is borderline false advertising at this point.

    P.S

That poll might not be the best idea, because it can be abused by trolls. Either way considering what fire we currently have on OF and other social media, they at least have to rework them again. Hopefully to something good this time.

I'm sure it will be but if there are as many people who want the change as I think there are, one will outweigh the other easily. Also I agree, it doesn't mean much to some but I really liked how they sounded and this just feels wrong. I'll submit another in game suggestion as well, good idea.

Just thought I'd finally chime in, after lurking this forum for quite awhile.

I wouldn't say these new sounds have ruined GNB for me, I've even started to get used to them. But that doesn't excuse just how poor in quality a lot of the sounds are now. Everyone's already talked about it at length so I won't bother going into too much detail. But the new sounds stripped away a lot of the nuance of the sound of a gunblade.

What stands out mostly to me regarding the changes is Solid Barrel and Rough Divide, the latter I've seen no one talk about. Solid Barrel's final hit of the four slashes had a trigger pull and small explosion going off. The new sound is missing that entirely. What once sounded like a noise only a gunblade could produce, Solid Barrel now sounds like any other generic weapon.

And Rough Divide no longer has what sounds like a powerful shot going on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Gunbreakers use the recoil from that shot to propel themselves forward. The new sound doesn't sell the power of the animation. It's much more muffled and doesn't sound at all like any sort of firearm being shot.

I was really hoping they would further refine the sounds in this patch, but I guess it's not going to happen. I would love the old sounds back personally, as it was clear a lot of love went into the GNB's sound design.

Honestly, feel free to go into detail, the more support the better. Personally I don't want to develop stockhome syndrome with these sounds so I'm straying from this job atm and trying DRK again I guess. I was too used to and ready with the original sounds that this change is just a big no-go for me.

I did mention rough divide but no one acknowledged it either, it feels like its kinda nice that it isn't so squeaky but similarly just doesn't really give as much oomph as the other tank dashes(animation wise it's a bit lackluster too for it being one of Squall's most iconic skills). Of course everyone agrees with what you said about the keen edge combo entirely. Rough Divide is known for being the skill originally that Squall would use after reznokuken that had him slash upwards and "divide" the enemy in half with a ton of rocks and earth being sent with it. In Dissidia, this instead was changed to a more simplified "dash" with the sword bursting with light and him rushing to the target and slashing into them. We ended up with the latter version as a means to have a tank gap closer that also fits the "skill name" as a reference to the gunblade user. It never really had a gunshot sound or overall trigger sound, it's kinda just a dash.... It still sounds as wimpy as it used to imo but eh, not much they can do I guess with it.

original rough divide after reznokuken ^

^ 20 seconds in is the Dissidia version of Rough Divide. Although Revolver Drive right after that, not being an original skill, looks and sounds pretty badass... prolly wouldn't fit for the gunbreaker though since they don't just use revolver styled gunblades like him. If anything, I feel we should've gotten a animation and sound more matching what Thancred does in the CGI of Shadowbringers. Something more akin to a long range dash with a twirl during the dash rather than a weird flip at the end with a squeaky impact at the end. Something more akin to the implication of you dashing almost "through" the target, piercing, but also powerful.

In any case, I'll live with rough divide how it is either way, the main combo and our overly done continuation combo is my biggest issue right now.. And them toning down blasting zone felt completely unnecessary.

But yeah, old sounds had more detail in them imo with as you said, the trigger pulls and mechanisms of the gunblade working + explosions/slashes in equal form.

Does anybody have actual video or audio of the original sounds? I never picked up GNB until after the changes, so I'm not sure what they sounded like before. I'm okay with the current sounds, but if the original ones sound better I'll agree with changing the audio back.

I thought I might share my opinions on it as well.

I leveled Gunbreaker solely through trusts. After awhile the sounds grew on me, each and every one of them. And that Final run of Mt.Gulg where I hit level 80 I will never forget.
2 mobs before the final boss, when I unlocked Blasting zone. The first time I heard that noise in game I was so happy and happy with Gunbreaker overall. (my fave tank at this point)

I loved the clink sounds of the parts in the Solid Barrel combo while slashing away. Same with gnashing fang combo, aoe combo, rough divide and even lighting shot. Blasting zone was just icing on the cake.

After the patch that they were "changed" I felt pretty upset. They no longer have the charm to them that I was used to and they just sound awful (like a hollow bat whacking things, no slashes at all).
And they changed almost 90% of the attacks sounds. Bow shock and Sonic break being the only unchanged to my knowledge.
The new sounds are no longer mechanical or have the clink (hard to describe the noise prior to changes but people who play gnb know) sound to them.

I was upset so I voiced my concerns about them only to be met with "my opinion doesn't matter" and told to "kill myself" which at the time of the new raids patch just made the whole experience unpleasant.
But Gunbreaker doesn't feel the same so I haven't felt like touching it since.

That aside, I dislike the new sounds and I know I'm not alone in disliking the new sounds and I and others would very much like the old sounds back. Please.

I don't have the full continuation combo from the old set, since when I recorded mine, it was when I was below level 70. However there's a post of the keen edge combo compared by Very Merri here.

And then I have my video of most of the old sounds here.

BIG SAME here. I hate how many people try and tell me "it's okay, it doesn't matter" or "shut up, just play the job or move on" or something to the equivalent of "how can sounds really make you feel like this?".

That was partially why I tried out a striking dummy first too. I wanted to hear what they did first before I got to enjoy Eden. I'm glad I did because even Merri said something along the lines of how he started Eden not knowing the sounds changed and it really threw him off during it. I was ready for it and just said... well.... this is awful.... I guess I'll go at least have fun in Eden.

No one should tell you to kill yourself though, everyone passionate about this job just wants the best for it in the end. Which should mean they should take pride in the original sounds that were shown in the trailers we had before release and accept how they sounded both GOOD, AND unique. Anyone who says that is a lot worse off in life likely. All this said, I 100% support your post because I've been through all the same and some people will just not understand why it matters to us.
