Besides its not just about being effective, its about people expecting you to have the one silly little piece of gear or your not allowed to join.

at least in WoW's case you were judged on the overall standard of your gear/enchants/gems not just one single piece of situational gear.

Sounds like it already exists in XIV so enhancing gameplay through gearswaps won't really do much lol.
