I won't claim to know what it's like inside SE, but as far as the community goes, people have been arguing over what SMN should be since day 1. There are people that want it to be a pure DoT job, there are some people that want it to be about micromanaging egis, there are people that want it to be closer to summoners in the rest of the games, and then people at every single point in between the three. They don't.
Like I said, remove Egi's and let them have temp summons like they do with Bahamut and Phoenix.
Titan could come tank for a moment and give you a shield buff before leaving for example.
Or gain one of their moves like we do Bahamut. I hate Egi's sooo much...

For me SMN and pets were great 1-60 after 60 they became meh. Now..I'll level my SMN by playing SCH.
I read somewhere that Yoshi really hates pet classes. So I doubt we will see any significant tweaks to current pets.

No, summoners should not just be about summoning a pet to an attack. They moved away from that in main titles for a reason. X and XI had to BEST examples of summoners in the series, the most fun and unique aspects that weren't just a spell with a special attack animation. XIV is sadly moving away from that, but considering Yoshi's hatred of pet classes, I can't say I am surprised. By the time they are done they will probably just be like black mage spells, just a special animation and then disappearing. Which, sadly, would chase me completely off of the job since I am a big pet class fan and at that point, heck almost at this point, they'd no longer be that.
That being said, Earthen Armor is your friend. By and large it let me cost through the solo portions of Shadowbringers without too many issues. No where near as much fun as having Titan tank for you but eh, thems the breaks.
SE is lost on SMN lol but they are slowly understanding, even Yoshi P said SMN wasn’t much of a SMN before. So while the idea of SMN is becoming great the delivery is a mess.
Still seeing some players Ruin II spamming even when they have Ruin III (even Ruin I can be stronger than II with dots), which goes to show many don't read their tooltips. By not doing that though they are probably gimping their damage in other areas too that it's no wonder they probably have trouble killing simple things. Players seem to want to main jobs but not really learn them, and that's unfortunate.

Well you see back int he last expansion and every expansion before that the pet that did tank (now gives you that sucktactular loong cooldown sheild) but by last expansion you wound up doing so much damage that the pet couldnt keep aggro anymore. On top of that you had more than enough players that would keep thier tanking pet out and just utterly screw up a dungeoun run. SE decided to go and do away with it entirely. That said it would be nice if they hadn't certainly would make FATEs less suck since Summoner really dont have the raw damage to deal with the enemies one much more than a 1v1 basis. So I'm leveling this summoner and with no pet helping with threat at all I have to run around like a Bard because my armor is like paper evidently. Seems like an odd decision imo. There is a shield from one of the pets but it's pretty weak.
Am I alone here? Anyone else think it's kind of dumb?
"Sometimes I wonder I heal for fun. or if I heal because I'm a glutton for punishment."
True lol I always see this and I cringe at the sight of ruin II, and cringe even more as I watch them run around with their Demi summons out...you are doing no dmg my friends.Still seeing some players Ruin II spamming even when they have Ruin III (even Ruin I can be stronger than II with dots), which goes to show many don't read their tooltips. By not doing that though they are probably gimping their damage in other areas too that it's no wonder they probably have trouble killing simple things.
