When did calling PS4 players “console peasants” become acceptable?

I've never once heard this before.

I really have no clue why other people seem to have these bad experiences in this game.
Since Realm Reborn I've only ever really had one bad experience with other players.

To be fair, this so-called "master race (i. e. PC vs console)" trash talk is not connected to XIV itself, but rather occurs there as well. The PC vs console troll fest is one of many topics for try-hards to show off in their "ultimate" ep33n competiton, whereas most people couldn't care less and simply game on the medium they want or are able to. Hardly anything useful or produtive comes out of it.

Well, I disagree with your assessment. Elitism goes far deeper than a website that displays statistics. That said, if you really didn’t care about the website—as you stated several pages back—then you could just ignore all subsequent attempts at argument instead of responding. Responding kind of goes against your prior “I don’t care about this website” statement.

Well actually, the long DEV cycle of the consoles (ultimately the source of the argument b/c in time PCs overtake consoles to a rather ridiculous degree) is a double edged sword.
On one hand it stifles the developmental pace of gaming graphics considerably. Games look largely the same now than they did 5 years ago because they still have to be able to run on the same hardware.

On the other hand: consoles can save us PC owners a crapton of money because, contrary to back in the day, we don't have to refresh our systems every 2 years anymore.

Usually, I never come back into a thread because my statements are solid when I hit "Submit reply" (the edits you see are mostly grammar fixes, you know, "I sprekken de Deutsch" primarily) and I do not need to come back to justify what I said over and over again.

But the "PC > Console" is a multi-layered problem, and I got trapped, or should I say, baited into a thread that was primarily about player skill (hence the mention of parsers).

My intention to post was that PC players have better experiences simply because our machines are flexible and don't have to be on a 5-year cycle of a third party company (SONY). And that we can simply spend some money to change one part and advance a bit further in video game technology while we get no benefits from it because the game is being held back by the consoles and their outdated specifications.

And THEN some jealous person pulls the "Your mother's credit card" reasoning and that ticked me off. For a solid reason. It is clear that minium wage respectively fast food workers have not much income left to spend but as the first post on the second page said, there are people that can afford it. Just by me mentioning I have a beefy system and a nice performance makes some "consoleros" mad and angry, well, I think it's absolutely amusing. Both threads are full of us needing to "justify" our more expensive rigs, but as soon as you have the paychecks, why not? I have the demand of that hardware as soon as you tasted the sweet of high PFS and high resolution. My cousin was always telling me to get a G-Sync monitor. I told him to stop being like that. Now I have one, and not only is G-Sync extremely awesome and something console players can't enjoy (uh-oh, I bragged again - actually, stated a fact) but as soon as move the cursor on your Windows desktop so smoothly because of the 144Hz combined with a higher resolution you don't want to get back. But you can go on deny and claim PC users elitist and their claims are all wrong. Your thing.

There was a time when people were equally poor. It was called "communism". We do not want communism, do we? Because it had one side effect: Mediocrity. Why being better when command economy set artificial limits anyways? Why getting better pay when you can't spend it anyways? Why advance visually when SONY has not announced a new console? And FFXIV is stuck in "mediocrity" graphic-wise (I showed you the textures) because of consoles. But do we all want to have a "good"-looking game when we could have a "great"-looking game? What is the problem of "advancing", of "being better"? Sorry that I want to have a certain standard of living...

Having a (objectively) better experience and mentioning that getting console players on the edge and getting them bitterly jealous by saying we are snobs or have a weak ego or something similar is ridiculous as well; they should get over the fact there are people that can afford more, especially when you worked for it like in my case. Use this as inspiration to better your situation instead of sitting in the corner and cry that other's should not display their achievments. Or is your neighbour supposed to drive a 1996 Ford Fiesta just because you cry when you look at his driveway when he has parked his Lamborghini there?

This can be put in any context, e.g. "I am not good at X, so other's can not have X either". X can be a dungeon, a raid. When I see a player with a glowing weapon ingame (I stopped doing such things in 2015) I do not get all "Turn it off, smug elitist raider " but go like "Wow, that is cool to wield it, isn't it"?


But soon I learned it was about player skill, and that players call them "console peasent" and assume they are worse players. This is something I do not care about the slightest, and let's be honest, if you check the opening post, you see there is no mentioning about skills, just a pretty whiny dude that complains about monetary aspects. And since I have enough ranking going on in my job every day, I play this game for enjoyment. I admire my Lalafell Red Mage in his Duelist attire and his moves and spells, the audiovisual pleasure RDM is to play as and enjoy to be the second-row healer if thinks get chaotic. Apart from slower loading times and this weird "analog" turning many controller uses have (they move as on standing on a slowly rotating platform while mouse users turn the camera in the direction and start to turn instantly) I do not give a flick about what hardware you are on.

I am solely talking about the technical aspect.

On a side note: The amount I've been called bullcrap for being Lalafell, oh dear, the forums would be full of threads like this... But as soon as you grow up, or don't expose yourself to difficult environments (e.g. the internet when you are severely depressed) you stand your ground. How often did people call my favourite setting (keyboard and mouse) "absolute terrible", "crampy", "trash" over their controller input? Do I care?
Even when I am a "roasted potatoe" or "emergency rations" or even "a football for Hrotghar and Roegadyns", I have much in petto for them to respond

Yes, and that is part of "my" problem: PC Players can upgrade their systems over the lifespan of FFXIV for a fraction of the cost of a console but improvements might not happen until SONY announces a new console. Of course this game runs fun as Square Enix solely need to care not to make the PS4 explode with graphical enhancements, and many brought up that other games are miles ahead. As a massive DooM fan (320x200@256 colours in 35fps) I am not a graphic fetishist at all, and again, people confuse it with style (e.g. how the spells or professions look). However, having e.g. less fauna on-screen because consoles have fps drops then is not healthy for the game's overall "awesomeness" either. How awesome it would be to see all details while flying high up in the air, a higher render distance etc.

Console gaming is also still more popular in Japan than PC, and FF MMO's have had a long legacy on console. Square Enix has to consider their home market, so holding back development or not 14 will continue to support console, likely until its run its course and gone into maintenance mode a la FF11. At least in 14 you can still play the game on an equal footing between platforms; PC was miles better in FF11 just based on how much easier it was to do gearswap macros alone.

I know about that fact that japanese people use their consoles until they fall physically apart and keep developing games for them. And it is basically another supportive evidence that PC players are held back by consoles, the reasons why I basically posted and got caught in this mess of sub-conversations myself.

Why would it be bad though if PC was "miles better" simply because it was PC? I mean, if a platform has an advantage, why should it be scrapped for all then? This is my problem here mostly. As soon as you ask for an improvement that can't be on consoles, then scrap it for everybody? (This is a hypothetical question, no need to be answered)

This is how the game is in 4K. I like how much space you get on your screen at higher resolutions, everything's neat and tidy. Original screenshot in PNG was 16 MBytes and no hoster was having this, so this is a JPEG with 100% quality - but still very lossy. The icons are not properly scaled, that is on Square Enix side (probably because, you know, console support not requiring high-res icons...) Since I play on a 27" monitor, do you know how crisp and high-contrast this is on a proper monitor when scaling down like that?

When you open it to the original size (as the forums scales it down) by right-clicking on it and let it display full screen, how much better does it look compared to 1080p/720p? How is the zoom factor on your screen? 30%?

If you deny that, then you can't be helped. And simply 1440p at very high FPS (~90) or 4K in medium FPS (~40 with G-Sync) are very good reasons to invest some money into my hobby. I reach those FPS with a GTX1080 which turned 2 years this month. The next GPU udpdate might get me over to the 60fps threshold on 4K, and then I scale it down via nVidia DSR so I play it on my 1440p monitor. This can't be done on consoles either.



Also, why can't anyone have "skill" meanwhile sporting high resolutions? Or is it forbidden to be succesfull in real life and in a virtual environment, too?

Around 25-30%, which would normally be considered pretty good, until you realise they have a lot of downtime where they are just sitting on their hands doing nothing instead of, you know, DPSing.
