Obviously I'm not SE, but they probably don't want to add new servers because in a few weeks once things calm down a lot less people will be playing and they won't be necessary.

If they add new servers they risk them not filling up and in fact they already made that mistake before. Omega was launched 2 years ago and it was very popular. However a few days later they quietly added another server (Louisoix). Sadly though because noone knew they were going to release two servers (at different times) most people who wanted to transfer to a new world had already transferred to Omega (and were locked there for 90 days!). From what I understand it took Louisoix's population a long time to catch up with all the others.

I saw someone further back in the thread say that the servers obviously aren't that full as the login queues aren't that big, but if you're getting login queues at all then the server IS full. Allowing people to create even more characters on those servers is just reckless. They won't be running the servers to 100% capacity, but by now they'll have worked out what their "safe" limits are so they'll be working to those limits.

Sorry, but just need to be patient

I'm not 100% sure that login queues are an indication of server population congestion considering that on Faerie we've had a login queue ever since the server split and the world visit system was implemented. Our server population, as far as I'm aware, didn't suddenly increase, though perhaps more people are visiting our world, which would make the server seem more full than it actually would be if you just look at server population.

So, that was me who said that, and I am all but certain that how you described it is not how it actually functions. So, think of this -- when the data center crashes and people try to log in en masse, you get the same message: "Server is full", and your spot in the queue. Obviously, the server *isn't* full (or at that 100% safe capacity) at this point, nobody is having to log off in order for more people to log on, but there is still a queue -- this makes sense, because obviously if you let everyone log on at exactly the same time, it will probably crash the server again. I'm certain that the normal queues work in much the same way -- it's not that the server is at 100% safe capacity or necessarily reaching it, it's just a matter of balancing the load of current players' activity vs the users trying to log in, and letting those users trickle in gradually so as not to overload the server. Nearly EVERY server has a queue when logging in now, so I would certainly hope that not every single server was near or at that safe 100% capacity.

In terms of "adding more people to a full server", I would honestly rather deal with longer login queues if it meant that my friend could actually play with me on my data center. At least opening up a single new server on Aether would allow for that.
