The thing is, when you design a tank, it should FIT the role to a certain degree - The Gunbreaker would have been way more flavorful as a DD, even though as a Tank from first day on I appreciate having a "cool" new Tankversion.

turn on tank stance and queue will lock you as tank role. turn off tank stance and queue will lock you as dps role.

Yes Gunbreaker always a DPS in Final Fantasy VIII imaging melee DPS LB3 with Gunbreaker doing Squall Lion Heart + Blasting Zone alike skill instead some tank shell in LBIII how stupid to put a gunbreak into a tank doing stupid shell..............

Squall was actually the highest VIT party member and the story was about him being a Knight/Protector of a Sorceress. Tank fits his role a lot better.

No jobs were tanks in previous games. Literally the only 'tank' or 'healer' jobs in classic Final Fantasies were Knight/Paladin (because of one skill, cover) and White Mage (because it was ONLY a healer, no dps apart from against undead and Holy at endgame)
