No need to be a genius to understand that it is the conclusion of all the side quests.
I dont like the monk-job, I dont think it suits my character (and I also dont like the gameplay of it). But there was a lot of lore hidden in those quests, so in order to access that lore directly through the game (and not reading up on it on outside sources), I did end up leveling monk. Bottomline: sometimes you do have to suck it up.
If you're so deeply concerned about not leveling jobs on a character that you dont picture as a tank, whats stopping you from creating one that would excell in all diciplines? A warrior who picked up scholaring on the side to honor the warrior-scholar-duos of old who then also discovered that its just a small step from scholar to summoner and found himself without his axe once so he trained his fistfighting, liked it and became a monk aswell?
If its only your headcanon for specific characters thats stopping you from accessing that quest, than change that headcanon?
And as Xant'cha said: Its nice to get something for your "troubles" of "mastering" every role - and I could even see that fit nicely into a story and/or lore... some sort of storytelling that requires someone who isnt only a bookworm, but also knows how to punch someone in the face.
I don't mean to sound rude, but that's your decision. Unlikely many other MMOs this game allows us to play everything on a single character. It's also so alt unfriendly (mainly because of having to do the MSQ repeatedly), that I think it can said it's actively encouraged to do it all on a single character.Locking a quest behind the requirement that these characters break with the fantasy I’ve established for them means that it’s a quest I’ll probably never get to see, because it doesn’t feel right to bring up these disciplines on them (never mind that it effectively means grinding them through PotD/HoH, which is a mode of gameplay that I do not enjoy).
Also how is this really any different to things like the level 60 bard quest? You'll never get to do that unless you get a bard to 60. Or what about the allied Beast Tribe quests? You'll never be able to do those unless you level all the beast tribes (including a crafting/gathering one).
All the quests in this game have requirements, but there's nothing to stop you actually meeting those requirements except yourself![]()
I don't mind it as long as it's just a bonus to the story and not its "true ending".
You don't get Allied Beast tribe quests unless you grind all of them. Same thing. It exists in your story because you did them all.
I'm sure you are not the only player who has created some kind of fantasy/lore with their character, however the fact is SE's provided lore supercedes your own so if you need to do something specific to clear a quest then you have to break character (your lore) just like everybody else.
As someone who finds playing Healer or Tank in XIV to be the most mind numbingly boring experience you can get in a game, it's a little disappointing to see these quests locked behind needing at least 4 jobs leveled to 80. It's not particularly difficult to achieve this, it's just incredibly boring to do so. The "reward" for leveling multiple classes is that you have multiple classes, this just seems like a pretty transparent way to waste peoples time.
I'm more salty about them requiring you to now have to have 3 DoH and 2 DoL leveled in order to see the full story for custom deliveries. Not only is that mind numbingly boring, its also expensive.
I actually like this, I'm really interested to see what it is and what it rewards.
Don't like it, don't watch.
I don't see why I have to level ALL jobs. I don't like tanking. I don't like healing. I've always played ranged DPS. Now I am going to have to level up jobs that make me uncomfortable and I will most likely fail at. Sounds like a great time. I can't wait to hear all of the players from Gilgamesh screaming at me for sucking at healing or tanking. Good times. (And I mention Gilgamesh because those players seem to have real issues with everyone and always make nasty comments)
