Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I talled my FC members about this thread and maybe one person who knows german might translate the male viera info to english. Can't promise tho

Oh I am from german too but not sure if I can make it (or remember it...because cheese brain) but I would be most interested in the Japanese version.

Oh this is more about the part of posting ingame informations about male Vieras that might come up in Shadowbringers. It would be interesting to see the differences and similarities between the languages.

I feel exactly the same about Hrothgar. There will be a lot of people that play it for a few months or they might even make it a whole year, but what will happen before the expansion has even run its two years it it will just split the already low Roe population. I am guessing roughly half of the already low Roe population will stay as Hrothgar after the new wears off and the two of them will always be competing for the least played race of FFXIV.

Actually, we should count some part of male Miqo'te going there, too. I saw few players who played them only because there was no other feline beast looking option. Some Auri, too. So I think they will be more popular than Roes now, but not same popular as recent top3 options (Miqo'te-Au Ra-Hyur triada).

Oh this is more about the part of posting ingame informations about male Vieras that might come up in Shadowbringers. It would be interesting to see the differences and similarities between the languages.

Pretty much what I was gonna say on the matter. I don't speak with any Roebros as they're clearly their own thing but before I heard news of their take on this I saw mostly Cat Boys excited that they can now become Cat MEN because ... shockingly when you have only 1 "furry" race people who want a full on mammal-human anthro race just feel like they have to settle for what they can get. Same with Scale Bros, saw a number of them who are excited about converting to a beast race and seem to have played their current race cause it's the most beastly option.

Later I found out that many Roebros want to convert. Makes sense, they like the big beefy boy look and the Hrothgar are a much better take on that.

And on top of all of that it's the fact that this game is the biggest it's ever been ... prob in no small part due to w/e number of people from the other 2 biggest MMOs coming over. As of right now there's really no good option for someone who plays a beast looking race in those games in this one so they would have had to settle on some other race til Hrothgar go live.

As for Viera, that's another story. The males of this game have a fairly decent spread. Sure, Roebros are the least played male ... but they're only 5k below Elezen and for every 4 cat boys there's 1 Roebro. But the 2 least played anythings in this game are Female Elezen and Femroe. There's like 1 Femroe for every 17-20 cat girls IIRC. Seems many expected the Viera to be Cat girls with bunny features seeing how many "They're too tall!/ Where's their bunny tail?" I've seen. I feel like Viera will be more popular than Elezen females because like half of them are gonna convert to what's basically better looking Elezen 2.0 but IDK past that.

You are correct in this statement, but until 3.0 it was the only option people had if they wanted to play male and beast looking character. In 3.0 we also got Auri, which is more near to Hroths in terms of looking fierce, but still is very different niche, because they are more like... models, maybe? Anyway, until now, if somebody wanted to play really beast looking race, they had two partly suitable options, and if they wanted to play feline one - they had only Miqo'te.

Well yeah, they fill a completely different niche. I'm just reporting what I've seen and making sense of it. When you don't have the options you want you settle for the next best or what looks best to you. Cats and K9 furries are the most common that I've seen and if the closest the game gives you to an anthro cat is a ... human with Cat Ears then it makes sense to go for it if you like anthro cats. So when I saw a ton of cat bois loving the chance to convert into proper Cat Men it checks out on the logical meter why they settled for what they got now.

I really don't presume to know why "everyone" plays what they play.
When your options are as limited as they are now you can't really say one way or another why everyone plays what they play. Like me ... as of right now I play Femroe. Got here because I'm a black man who can't make a character that looks like me. When I can I do but that's mostly just Western games that give you that freedom to have black features and such. As someone who plays a lot of eastern games it's annoying but expected. And if I can't play a dude that looks like me I just default to female. Started as a Cat Girl, converted to Femroe cause they look cooler (IMO the only female's that look cool ... not cute or pretty but straight up COOL are Femroe and Highlander. Mostly in their animations and how gear fits them. Was a toss up but again, not being able to make a black human that looks right made me go for the non-human looking Femroe). Was one of the people pissed Scale Girls weren't tall and cool like the guys cause the dudes came out pretty good but too edgy anime teen for me.

Now I'm going ALL IN on Hrothgar. Changed my name and said GG to all my Female Mog Glam. Not cause I'm a furry, I like anthros but I don't even play beast races when I can. In GW2 I never even got around to making a Charr alt. Not cause I like "big men", I have never had a desire to play meat wall Roebro and if anything I like tall women. Nope, it's cause they look bad ass af. When they were first revealed I didn't think anything of it cause I got what I wanted months before (Black coded tall bunny women) but the more I saw the clearer it was. Completely different shape to Roebros, they have the classic and appealing heroic inverted triangle shape which tells me gear is gonna look gooood on them. Animations are impressive and expressive as hell. Faces are creative AF, voices seem super well done so far and I see them as having some of the most freedom to look unique from a Design PoV.

Why am I pointing all this out? Because in a world where these new races never came out, where Femroe and Thighlanders weren't put in the game ... a world where the only female options where Potato/ Elezen/ Mid/ Cat girl I'd simply be 1 in a sea of cat girls (As they are the most interesting option in that list) and you'd never know that I just settled for what was most interesting from that list.

So yeah, I don't really second guess these things. If I see a cat boi excited about converting to Hrothgar he prob settled and now has an option he's been desiring.
