I 100% support this thread.

I'm sorry, but this is the worst drop system I have ever seen in an MMO. I remember the original reason being was because they were scared of ninja looting. I will tell you right now, I much rather take the chance of someone ninja looting my item than deal with this god awful system.

Also, what the hell is the point of the totem system if it drops as often as the weapon does? This makes the system pointless and broken. Almost no one is just going to give away their kupo nut since they want to keep it, and I can't blame them, because most people don't get the weapon they want till they kill him a ton. If anything, totems should be 100% drop rate. Beating Moogle twenty times definitely deserves a guaranteed reward.

Others are right, SE is worried that people will stop playing after getting their item. I can tell you right now, more people are quitting simply because of this drop system. No one should ever have to deal with this type of system, I could go as far to say the system is simply cruel. I am on the edge myself because of this.

I beat Ifrit about over 100+ times, getting 6/7 weapons from the event during it's prime. Want to guess which one I did not get? The weapon for my main class. If you beat something over 100 times and don't get the weapon you are seeking, you have a terrible system. I have even lost the will to take on Moogle simply because I feel like I am going to fall into this again and just be disappointed. Being repetitive is one thing, but being repetitive and not getting properly rewarded is game breaking.

I know we are getting a need/greed system in 2.0, but for now I look at 1.0 and if you want to keep people from quitting, you really, "really" need to change the system here. At least someone in your group should come out happy each fight.
