It wasn't a failure, especially not at 4.0.

However, it's important to remember that of all the new kit WHM got with SB. All but one of those abilities were almost entirely forgettable when the expac hit. Thin Air was a powerhouse right from the word go and honestly that one cooldown carried WHM for the entire expansion. The rest of the kit was barely worth the screen real estate it took up and this was the case for far too long.

An Expansion where you literally may as well not bother to hotkey most of your new abilities is a failure imho.

*edit* I should probably also note that whilst WHM wasn't a failure on 4.0 dropping. SCH most certainly was. I stand by my comments at the time that whomever it was that signed off SCH going live in the state it did needs to be kept well away from touching any job or class ever again. Clearly that didn't happen though eh? =(

This whole mush kind of reminds me of the situation Everquest's Shaman found itself in somewhere around the Planes of Power/Dungeons era where an entire new level cap toolkit was quite literally a cut and paste of the previous tier, to the point where Verant/SoE actually forgot to modify the wording in the tooltips and left the old names in there to really rub it in. It was probably a good thing that they didn't have an official forum back then =(

Even then so many continue to enjoy the WHM so I say it has more mixed reviews. The biggest complaint was the lily system. Which didn’t make much sense based on how the class is played, but you could play around with the lily system to get more assizes etc. not sure that was overly efficient though.

However, I agree with you in that their additions really didn’t mean much excluding Thin Air. Amazing ability as you said.

The power of it being the iconic FF healer job coupled with it being the most vanilla of all the healers. The fact that so many people clung onto the job in Creator when it truly was at it's lowest speaks for it's appeal really.

I actually had a pretty good system for abusing the Lily Assize CD reduction in dungeons and got some rather bonkers DPS numbers with it. It's safe to say I'll be doing the same with Misery

I’m tempted to whm myself just for misery. It just looks self satisfying.

Switch AST and WHM, and you have a dead job. As Sebazy said, WHM lives off being iconic. Look no further than MCH to see a job without an iconic status and how it languishes. Granted, WHM doesn't have nearly as much issues with its gameplay MCH does but also doesn't have to deal with as much competition.

As for your earlier post. You can play and enjoy something while being critical of its faults. If we all remained silent, then we're guaranteed to never see the changes we hope occur. By constantly remaining vocal, there is at least a chance the dev team acknowledges them and works to make improvements. I see that better than the alternative where certain jobs suffer, especially as you dabble into harder content. You just have to ask the WHMs how many times they were asked to play AST.

I never said people should remain silent though. I do think they should avoid “the game is failing” posts as a means to get affect change. Being critical and having a temper tantrum(for lack of a better word) posts are different. Also flat out ignoring the dev teams development opinions, ie play first then feedback is just asking for increased frustration. State your case, but then Follow up on what they ask. Calling the devs names and prognosticating the end of the game helps no one.

And they listened to a degree. The amount of utility classes bring is being toned down and the lily system did finally get a change. Successful? Time will tell. So yeah give feedback, but again concise measured feedback and not “omg you suck, give me back “X” are you brain dead!!?”

From a ooo that was fun aspect yes. Every moment of game time does not have to be pure min max maximum performance. Have a little fun! Especially in the normal content.
