That comes down to rewriting how the game handles glamours, and where it needs to look to know how to display your character's appearance. Right now it essentially has a "fixed gaze" on reading the information in the glamour slot on each gear piece. The plate system is designed not to disrupt that - it's just a quicker way of editing the information stored in that specified location.

It seems quite possible that changing that location would come under the core coding that they don't like to tinker with.
