Glamour dresser getting an update

I like how people keep ignorantly quoting me.

If they want to keep players around they need to keep improving the game, i don't think we need to be thankful for that. Its ridiculous to think so.

Not only that, the glamour system in this game is handled poorly.

People need to raise their expectations instead of being so lowly and grateful for such a minuscule handout.

This is Square enix, not some tiny indie company, they are capable of doing it and we should hold them to it.

But yeah i'm entitled whoop-de-do, you got me.

I like how people have this mindset of "I'm happy and grateful for this, and others should be to".

Not everyone is pleased by such a half baked handout.

i'm not saying you should be thankful. I don't know if you're so hung on that word but okay. i'm saying you should be patient. i guess i'll leave my personal opinion regarding the plates out of this next time.

Sure having 15 plates is better than 10 plates. But we can still complain,

I am plenty patient actually, but like i said people need to hold square to a higher standard.

Its 2019, and there are games that are older than FF14 that handle their glamour system much better than FF14.

You probably already know but WoW, and guild wars 2 are big ones that come to mind.

There are 15 combat jobs right now(Not counting blue mage), 3 disciple of land jobs, and 8 disciple of hand jobs. For a total of 26 total jobs.

Plus DNC and GNB coming in ShB for a total of 28 (29 if you count blu).

Why did they even think 15 would be enough? Okay sure they are gradually updating it, but it has been many patches since they have last touched the glamour dresser.

I have said many times that they need to go all out on the glamour dresser.

You keep saying "be patient" but how long are we going to have to wait? patch 5.5? The next expansion after Shadowbringers?

They probably know and recognise that it isn't enough, so they're giving us what they can without breaking the character data servers. It's common knowledge at this point that literally anything regarding the storage of character data is a very finicky procedure that they need to handle with utmost caution. I'm almost certain we'll have more than enough plates in the future, it's just a case of waiting for the back end to be able to handle it.

Heck, it's the whole reason we got the Saddlebag over more actual inventory space.

See, this to me is a failure. It's not a "glamour system". It's a retainer.

I too, only use it for holding my raid gear I don't want to throw away.

You're not using it for its intended purpose? And decide it's a failure based on how you it?

Seriously, it works. It's not perfect, but it functions well as-is even it could be better. It certainly could. But it's not terrible in its current state.

To be honest to me it looks that they didn't even put 5 minutes of work into that update of the dresser. Changing 2 values in the database (maybe adjusting the inferface a bit) and selling it as a big deal. Woohoo

A while ago, one of the programmers posted an explanation of how complex it actually was to give us expansions to the main inventory. If everything else is similarly difficult, then I wouldn't be surprised if they actually want to give us thirty plates and a thousand storage spaces but simply can't.

It seems they either can't or won't rewrite the base code, and have to work with what they've got, which is a mess due to wanting to get 1.0 fixed quickly, and not thinking forward to future growth.

If I remember correctly it would be analogous to swapping the shipping infrastructure of a retail company in terms of integration and complexity. The problem is in how the item databases talk to the client and game servers and how often.
what reasoning would they have for simply NOT giving the entire playerbase glamour storage? We already know people who pay for retainers are a severe minority so it's unlikely they're afraid of losing that much money especially if they got rid of a lot of peoples reservations about buying actual cash shop glamours (lots of people don't buy them because we have no storage for it) . We also know the biggest inventory problems are fishing and crafting mats so this wouldn't even touch those players who have extra retainers to manage that problem. There are Over 10k equippable items in the game. If we simply got a log thats potentially 10k pieces of data per character per person.

They aren't simple or uneducated. This team took a mishmash of poop and like Rumpelstiltskin spun it into gold. There will be a point where they just cannot wring anymore out of this current architecture and code and they'll have to upgrade.. and personally I think when that day comes the successor to FFXIV will be well on the way. Convincing the overlords of SE that the investment of not only time and manpower hours is worth it but the loss of player subs while they swap over things (people WILL leave if the game changes that drastically, even for the "better") is , in my opinion, highly unlikely.
