To Annatman:I believe Yoshida stated what he thought they would look like if implemented during the USgamer interview https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...iption_of_the/
That being said I would prefer them to be more feral with more patches of fur similar to the picture you've proposed. I hope they consider feedback here for the possible appearance of the race, though I will understand if they do not, I hope they can be added whatever the decision is made.

Gon from BnS are much more close to Highlanders than to concept art, imo. Not to mention that we have plenty of "manpower dream" options. On concept art from 2015 they look like mix of Elezen elegancy, Miqo'te attractivness and Auri fierce, so basically have same vibes as females do, not just typical and simple "mountain of meat". Also Yoshida stated how they could look if they implement them and it sounded rather far from Gons.
Nope?

I could not find any actual definition, but phrasing itself is more or less common in some communities. Highlanders, Roe, Hrothgars are basically what you can describe as this: tall, bulky, mountain of muscles, not really attractive but strong looking men. Auri are also fall into this section, but only partly, they are somewhere inbetween.
As a side note: kind of fun that, while it's a very common archetype in online games for some reason, in fact it's rarely playable by players, who instead takes female characters or "general" looking guys. In this term FF14 has one of the largest male characters population among all games I ever played, and most of them are Midlanders (who look like normal irl guy) or Miqo'te (who are athletic but kind of small thanks to their height and proportions). Third are Auri, thanks to the fact they have some handsome face options and good proportions, that's why they fall into "manpower dream" section just partly.

I’d rather they added them in a way that fits the race as opposed to trying to shoehorn them into some quota. Also let’s not pretend Roegadyn and Highlanders/Au Ra fall into the same category. They don’t. They’re at comical proportions. I’d be fine with Viera being between elezen and Au Ra/highlanders but they shouldn’t do this solely to fill quotas.I could not find any actual definition, but phrasing itself is more or less common in some communities. I don't thinks they all fall in really one category (every race has its own niche in fact), but if we will separate races into few obviuos archetypes, there will be:I’d rather they added them in a way that fits the race as opposed to trying to shoehorn them into some quota. - Roe, Highlanders, Hroths
- Auri somewhere here inbetween
- Elezens
- Midlanders, Miqo'te
- Lallafels
Also I don't think they will do them based on quotas (as if they ever did?). But since they just added big looking race and also at least Yoshida had an idea how they could look, it seems as male Viera could fall into category "Elezen + Miqo'te + Au Ra" (considering his description and which is also fits the race), so infact will be in one with Auri because of their being somewhere inbetween few other options.
Well, Elezen are slender too.
As it stands, Midlanders have the broadest customisation in the game in terms of the number of base faces and customisation options. Their lack of any additional features such as horns and animal ears also allows more hairstyles to fit them. Highlander men have a bulky physique that is very appealing...but their facial customisation is lacking and they lack authentic eyebrows. Roegadyn are a bit too big for many. Elezen have odd proportions and very stiff animations.
I'd like viera men to fill the niche of tall, handsome and well-built. The artwork of the adult viera men isn't that far off. It's 'slim' when compared to roegadyn, certainly, though I'm hoping that Yoshi-P is aware as to how popular the elven races are in WoW and how they have a decent amount of muscle on them.
I don't consider Highlander men to be in the same category as Roegadyn and Hrothgar. They're muscular but not unrealistically so. They're also not much taller than a max height Midlander man when the Highlander man is at minimum height.

@Halivel
Which means you're set as far as that Aymeric/pretty boy archetype goes. You don't need male Viera to be the same.
As for Gon and Highlander, you're comparing tall men (Gon) to average men (Highlander). Highlander are actually pretty short by FFXIV male standards
Gon are tall...

I actually spend a lot of time making this art, and I use gimp 2. It might not be a style you are used to but it is mine and I am practicing, for fun. I wanted to draw some male vieras, and have been continuously attacked the past couple pages. I will ignore this and draw a commission someone asked me to draw. I actually have drawn a lot of things people asked me to draw. Being singled out just because my artwork isn't to your "standards" is very disconcerting, and frankly, insulting. I actually spend a lot of time making this art, it isn't low effort.
Male Hrothgar gunbreaker and male viera dancer meet in the middle of a forest clearing. The hrothgar challenges the viera to a duel.
I also get a lot of likes, and positive feedback for my art. So, please stop naming and shaming me, and attacking me.
