The reason would be because you can play all classes on one character, unlike other MMOs, so there's no need for alts from a mechanics standpoint.

I understand that people like to RP other races/characters, but you don't need to be max level to RP.

No shared bank.
No shared achievements.
No shared seasonal and event items.
No shared housing.

Store items are for one character only

And cant even send gil or materials between characters on the same server without friends or a contrived transfer on the market board.

Basic functionalities in other MMO's completely absent from this one... And we are hitting the 3rd expansion now.

Sorry i guess for wanting to play different looking characters without leaving my main behind or having to do most events multiple times, or to not having to think about inventory always filling up because i decided to play more than one job...

I think the whole point is they don't want to have to drop £5.75 to change up every time. An alt character is a time-consuming but otherwise free alternative to that.

I agree that there should be a shared bank between characters. Especially ones on the same World. But I can't see it being a priority. The game is designed to discourage alts.

Time vs money

You can achieve all this by spending money, or you spend time and get less. Also this game is mechanically built for multi jobs on one character its a design choice and a game engine choice. If this is the only game without alts, well apparently you have choices other than this one.

Yes friending and sharing a house would be a big thing for many of us and has some have indicated would have probably stopped many of us with multiple homes from buying them if we could have shared a house with our main.

We dont play grand turismo and complain on the offical forums that it should be more like need for speed because there are more arcade racers out there. We stop playing grand turismo or dont even buy it.

I think the argument that we don't 'need' alts is spurious. There are lots of things we don't need that are nice to have (eg. mounts - we only need one, right? Glamour, minions, dyes none of those things are necessary but they make the game fun for people)
We do pay extra to have alts on the same world as our main and to be honest, I don't feel they are very good value. We can't share housing and we have to jump through hoops or use workarounds to get items from one character to another that just wouldn't be needed in other MMOs.


As to the OPs suggestions:
Story skip - we have it in the Mogstation and I think that's enough. While I'd like a little more QoL, I don't think people with alts should get a free ride to max level.
Shared bank - Just let me mail my alts, please. It would be nice but there are so many issues with storage in this game that I think it's very unlikely we'd get it.
Shared achievements - I would like the option for them to be shared.
Seasonal and events - Again, this would be nice but I'm not that bothered.
Shared housing - This was promised and we're still waiting. I would really like this.

I believe the system isn't designed the way you think it is. While there are shared things underneath an account, every time they share something new, it puts a bigger strain on their servers or something like that. I remember the devs talking about cross-character limitations, event items, and wardrobe glam how they are taxing. The characters under the same account don't really work together with the exception of a patch they introduced at some point so you couldn't friend yourself to use as a loophole for various things, housing related patches etc... So they can do it but AFAIK it's difficult since their approach to multiple characters is different, likely more efficient with the mindset that most people will just not mind it. Kind of like how they will never fix the audio bug because they have to choose between either low latency with bug or no bug with higher latency. Since it affects very few people considering, they would rather the majority enjoy the low latency.

It's a balance thing and OP would be considered the minority in all of this. Not that it doesn't matter but in terms of programming things, you have to pick and choose how you tackle problems. I hope this makes sense.

Hold up now. For one, there is (costs a small amount on the mog station), and for two, half the reason I HAVE alts is to play through the MSQ again. Unlike WoW, endgame is not all there is to FFXIV. if you have a problem and want endgame to be everything again, I'd suggest you go back to RNGForAzeroth.

I've played several MMOs out there, and this is the case in many of them. The exceptions have largely been games that are about dead anyhow, such as TERA.

So what? Unlike RNGForAzeroth, nobody judges you on what achievements you do or do not have on a character here.

That's similar across many games too, even RNGForAzeroth doesn't give me most of the seasonal/event items I earned on my main to my alts.

This one's fair. Actually I'd argue they should take this a step further and even allow in-game friends to share houses like this too, similar to a FC house but on a smaller scale.

Actually, that varies by item, and in some cases it'd be downright ridiculous to make them account-wide. Example: if I were to decide I don't want to level BLM on my 3rd alt, why should EVERY CHARACTER I EVER MADE EVER also get that boost for free?

This one's also valid. Actually, this one's probably my chief complaint about alt setup in this game.

In the case of mailing items to your alts, that's fair. In the case of the others, you're dead wrong, and I'd even argue FFXIV is years ahead. This is the ONLY MMO I've ever played that allows me to play upwards of 20 classes on a single character.

This is a lie. I am level 70 everything on my main, lv61+ everything on my first alt, and lv25ish everything on my second alt...I have zero inventory issues whatsoever.
