It's easier to understand if you've read the entire thread instead of just part of it and jumping to conclusions.
One thing I hate how this game deals with gear, is they make it so you get some basic chest, legs, feet, and possibly head or hands from MSQ, but a lot of gear comes from Side Quests ... which some people don't like to do.
Should make the gear given all MSQ and side stuff for exp and filling in lore or something.
Expecting a new player to buy gear from an NPC, and if they don't you kick them from the dungeon that they're trying to get gear from, is something I would expect from WoW trash. That mentality has no place in FFXIV.
JackHatchet has been pretty clear that she doesn't kick someone just because their gear isn't the best suited to the class the person is playing. It's only when that person because hostile/aggressive about it when asked or corrected (and i get the impression Jack is being polite when she corrects).
There's a button on the character window that will dig through your bags and equip the best items for your current class/job. This is a crazy awesome feature and should be used frequently while leveling. And I can say with certainty that it will equip items at lower levels that are not optimal for the class/job if there's no other option available.
Even if you do use that take care to quickly check the gear because sometimes it will make some..........odd choices. Like putting crafting gear on.Expecting a new player to buy gear from an NPC, and if they don't you kick them from the dungeon that they're trying to get gear from, is something I would expect from WoW trash. Actually people have kicked for bad gear since at least ARR in this game. Back when everyone was new yet people actually knew and bought GC gear, and/or got pink gear from leve quest chests.
Nowadays we have the NN so players can ask about gear, and I know of mentors who'll go out of their way to craft a full HQ lowbie set for them.

Yup went back and read all the pages.
I can see why if the responses are harsh.
Reminds me of a story from DD. I was the healer and the 3 others were all friends. The tank died so much. Like I couldn't even keep them alive. I checked their gear. It was lvl 20 .. and DD is what, lvl 40?
So I made a comment, and the 3 were like "Eh we like to troll healers for the lulz". I ate the penalty cause even I won't put up with that.
Now I can't comment on things like DPS outage or best stats for what class. Hell, I'm still having trouble deciding if I want to put more Spell speed or Piety on my gear. I do try to keep up to date with my gear, even if it's not HQ stuff.
I just have to give you a shoutout for being awesome.Yup went back and read all the pages.
You do realize that a vast majority of people have duty queue anxiety and that they simply don't want to talk to you and just want you to shut up right? As long as they don't die, what does it matter? Just run the instance and if they keep dying, then either boot them or complete it without reviving them. You think you're taking the high road of saying "it's democratic" but really, are you going in alone or with 2 other people you know? Do people know what they are clicking? Often times people will do a ready check and I can imagine that a vote kick confirmation to be confused with a ready check. I presume you queue for roulettes which is almost always going to have newbies because that's what it's for. Assuming I pass the ilvl check, I could throw away all my accessories and still do perfectly fine in any dungeon or raid because ACC don't matter all that much pre-5.0. Post 5.0 will be a different matter entirely but even then, as long as you don't die from a stack mechanic you are golden in my book.
Just let them play however they want to play. You wouldn't be the first person to carry someone through a dungeon and certainly won't be the last.
remind me to never play with this guy ^ XD I might just wear no accessories to troll him lolYeah yeah, I know that's a loaded header, but hear me out!
I wish Square-Enix would put class restrictions on accessories like they do with the rest of the gear.
I can't tell you guys how many times I'll get into a group with a caster wearing a mix-match of DEX/STR rings and other accessories that don't offer them any use to their class. And to top it all off, literally every-time I've ever mentioned this to someone--the response is always extreme hostility or extreme arrogance.
I'm totally cool with new players who don't know better making mistakes and then willing to learn and improve. That's great, they get a pass, because they're trying! I'd never kick someone for trying.
But man, I ask some folks why they're using a strength ring on their blackmage, and they say it increases their hit chance. I tell them that's not right. And they blow up on me. Those are the people I kick. And I do it way too often for it to just be a fluke. Like once a week often.
Is there a way we can fix this?
