I mean, once you voice those conversations in a public setting like a chat channel, they're definitely policable. that's almost entirely why they changed the policy however many months ago.Other people's conversations are none of your business, in the first place. If you take offense to what someone says, you have the option to leave. It's your choice to be offended and they certainly aren't attempting to offend you on purpose.
You don't get to police other people's conversations or thoughts.
Except no one said anything about directly insulting anyone. It's always been calling something autistic/cancerous.If someone calls me a "retard" they are most certainly are attempting to offend me and label me. I have every right to police and report that. That's what I'm referring to here. In short if you call people names and get your account suspended over it, you have no right to be upset over it as you brought it on yourself.
Which brings back the fact that it's best to stay silent and kill off all communication in the game. When the freedom of the many gets stifled by the feelings of the few.

Other conversations aren't your business. If you get offended, then leave. In the majority of cases people aren't trying to offend anyone, if you get offended anyway, you have the option to leave. And yet, seems a lot of FF14 players choose to remain, report and make angry forum rants about how people are so rude my god the humanity is ending because people I'm upset at something someone said! The apocalypse is coming! So that makes it ok? That means some random stranger is exactly like your best friend and can joke about it? That's like saying "I can't be racist because I have a friend who is black".
Some might joke about it and others might not like it. You should know that you should error on the side that someone might take offence and just not use derogatory terms around people you don't personally know.
Thank you for confirming the best option is to hide the chat when playing FF14 and using other communication platforms to communicate. It's quite sad how the feelings of the few end up causing the many to cut off communication entirely.
At the same time, also thank you for confirming that you believe having a community where the many refuse to communicate with the tools provided by the game because some random might get offended. That's a healthy community.
I hope the sarcasm isn't lost on you.
if people keep getting offended when you group with them and communicate, maybe the problem isn't the other people, maybe it's you. if anyone is the "few" in this situation, it's people like you. millions of people party up and have wonderful experiences and conversations with others in this game, there's problem a reason you keep having bad experiences with communicating with other people.Other conversations aren't your business. Strong victim complex here.
If I'm talking the same way I've been talking for over 2 years and now suddenly people have an issue with it, maybe the problem isn't me, maybe it's people getting offended with things that aren't offensive.if people keep getting offended when you group with them and communicate, maybe the problem isn't the other people, maybe it's you. if anyone is the "few" in this situation, it's people like you. millions of people party up and have wonderful experiences and conversations with others in this game, there's problem a reason you keep having bad experiences with communicating with other people.
The same can be said about someone getting offended by every group they communicate with. And in the situation of using the term cancer, those that are offended are the "few". Need proof? do a simple 100 random roulettes and say "this fight/dungeon is cancerous" and see how many gets offended by the term being used.if people keep getting offended when you group with them and communicate, maybe the problem isn't the other people, maybe it's you. if anyone is the "few" in this situation, it's people like you. millions of people party up and have wonderful experiences and conversations with others in this game, there's problem a reason you keep having bad experiences with communicating with other people.
I'm talking the same way I have in every MMO for the past 10 years of playing MMOs...no one's really had a problem with it until now. People are a lot easier to offend nowadays, they get upset at everything. Maybe the problem is that people are overly-sensitive these days.if people keep getting offended when you group with them and communicate, maybe the problem isn't the other people, maybe it's you. if anyone is the "few" in this situation, it's people like you. millions of people party up and have wonderful experiences and conversations with others in this game, there's problem a reason you keep having bad experiences with communicating with other people.
If you want to see it for yourself, there's a small experiment you can run, in every trial or dungeon you run, at the end say "This boss is cancer", watch how many people get upset by it.
Hint: Very few will. The majority won't really care.
I think people thank to social media have very thin skin if we not will to heard people difference of opinion it hard to deal with it, so even said this to me because I happen be conservative, I like many have hard put up with other people opinion so isn't one side issue or political issue it just people don't learn at same rate or devolope the skills to accept that we aren't all going agree on everything or see eye to eye on everything. it fact of life

That's completely different and you know it.If someone calls me a "retard" they are most certainly are attempting to offend me and label me. I have every right to police and report that. You are twisting John's words around.
If someone calls you a derogatory name such as "retard" or whatever, then yes they are completely in the wrong and deserve to be reported.
But that isn't what John said at all.
What he said was calling something cancer, such as "This boss is cancer"
Or an example i used earlier in this thread "The Eureka grind is so cancer lol."
You shouldn't get offended, because no one is even trying to attack you or offend you. If you got offended then its because you took the word personally, even when it wasn't used in a insulting way toward you.
A word is a word, the context of which the word is said means everything.
