Ok, I'll try to explain this, and I'll use small words to make it easier to understand. Saying "x is cancer" isn't the same as saying "someone with cancer sucks/is bad", it's saying "x sucks like cancer sucks".
I was born with autism. on the internet we been use autism as joke, as for cancer there many thing in are world cause cancer in really life. I often worried about really world push mental illness to be normal people, there seem attempt normalize mental illness and not worried with the struggle that people who are born with mental illness have or attempt push people who have mental illness to do very harmful stuff to them selves without tried help them.
Stop. Censoring. The internet.
I don't care if people use autism or cancer first off, I never want be victim for my mental illness, I not for censorship it hard to talk about important issue is we censor them all the time. it even more harder if we are will to embrace fantasy over reality ie science and medical on issue. I tell you most mental ill people want be like everyone else, we aren't fond of be called super ability of disability ability
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
What are you guys saying in game that you are worried about that you don’t talk in game anymore? I’ve never been in GM jail or suspended or anything like that, if you treat people with dignity and respect you have nothing to worry about.
The only problem here is you getting hurt over words on the internet.
I can understand why people wouldn't want to use autism as an insult, because people who have autism recognize that autism is part of who they are--and often they embrace it. Autism is just a part of them that makes them unique.
Where as cancer is completely different. I've never met anyone with cancer who actively embraces it or believes it's a part of them that needs to be respected or dignified. Cancer is... well it's cancer. Not even the people with cancer want cancer--so it's an appropriate insult.
----
Also, cancer has been commonly found to be caused by toxins in the environment. So if someone says "X gives me cancer." It could literally be true. Smoking gives me cancer. The stress from this guy's dps gives me cancer. The same concept. Which is why it's used.
(Note): no one should be getting stressed over DPS unless they're in a static--in which case just replace them, lol...
The only reason you would be worried about getting reported is if you say things that shouldn't be said in the first place. The fact that you know you say things that shouldn't be said and would be derogatory to someone yet still feel the need to say them is shocking.
Props to knowing this and controlling what you say around others I guess. At least you have this much self control.
