Isn't the Japan data center closer to you? Couldn't get on Tonberry?

I actually still get better ping to the US, due to the underwater cable that connects NZ to LA. I get worse ping when my Internet goes through Australia and then to Japan. The distance in cable is about the same from NZ to Japan, and LA to NZ, but there's much less connections between NZ and LA, and probably less traffic, resulting in the slightly higher ping. Plus both NZ and Australia has poor internet infrastructure, so going through Aus would naturally add some ping there.

Your data center for ping should be JP. It is closer to you.

Yet you connected to NA, which is your problem. SEs got nothing to do with your decisions.

I ran ping tests on both servers, and NA was slightly better, but I guess it's my fault and I should go Japan simply because its closer according to people in this thread?

There's lots of aussies on the JP servers, either they're all in the wrong DC or you are.

Uhm, NEW ZEALAND is not Australia. It has differences in ping due to that fact. What's with people thinking New Zealand is in Australia? It's getting to be a meme at this stage.
