Unfortunate that this game is plagued by things like this and nothing can be done about it.You are braver than I am- when the Native American set came out I was livid, and still am, but short of traveling to all 500 tribes reservations in the united states and 600 in Canada to get chiefs signatures on a letter to present to Yoshi P at a fan fest, I don't think SE will listen in my case.

The simple answer is:maybe there's more context we're missing in America here?
"Everything Japanese is the literal worst thing ever" - Korea.
Thats the context.
The reason PC gaming is as big in Korea as it is, for example, is because you had to smuggle consoles into Korea, because see above, but PC's were American. Its still illegal to broadcast Japanese media in Korea. As recent as 2014, Korea has censored Korean bands using Japanese words in their songs.
Yeah I've seen some. There are also ao dai and such, which is good given Vietnam was occupied too. I'm mainly thinking a kind of either hypothetical or actual traditional Korean school uniform alongside this? I wasn't adequately clear there so sorry about that!
I know there are some new interpretations of hanbok going on in Korea lately, and I know the manga Magi did a really cool thing where they did a kind of futuristic interpretation of Middle Eastern architecture/style as it might have been without Western influence. We can never really know for sure, but I do think those kinds of exercises can be really nice all around and something in that spirit might not be bad here.
So is this what it was like when we got the Native American themed glams? Which are (lol) still in the game?
Seems like you're just looking at one side of the comments here and not looking at the side that took OP's post and made it into a political issue. There are already comments as "I didn't know that, I will not wear it again", "If I had known, I wouldn't have bought it". Is this OP's intention? Some of the posts here are rather disturbing.
The OP wasn't saying to remove the outfits or to shame anyone who wanted to buy one or to hate the Devs or accuse them of anything. They simply wanted to educate users in the origin of the outfit and about a dark chapter in Japan's past. You buy the outfit, enjoy it, but respect the history behind it and the countless victims who were oppressed or killed. It's not an unreasonable thing to ask of any decent human being. The OP literally couldn't have worded it more reasonably and open minded.
The response to this has been largely "who cares", "people get offended too easily", "lol Koreans shouldn't buy it then", "the Devs don't need to say anything", "it's a game so whatever".
Quite shocked tbh.
Yeah, no. OP mention that she specifically made this thread because SE hasn't responded to the Tumblr/Twitter meltdown. So she wanted us to per her personal army. OP is not simply trying to "educate" us about the subject. The Tumblr and Twitter that she linked to is literally crying about it.Just a reminder as people are rifling through these posts and all, that there are a few points being made that are being missed, and other points that seem to be misinterpreted:
1. OP isn't trying to say the Occupation and Nazi's are exactly the same. It's a comparison made simply for the sake of hoping you all will garner understanding, even if it is not exact. Because it's a hard thing to describe, and even harder when you have a personal connection to it.
2. OP isn't trying to rip down Squeenix nor are they trying to get the outfit removed.
3. OP is trying it inform you all of the history behind the outfit itself, so you can be conscientious about endorsing it.
Because even if the elders that experienced the Occupation are not playing FFXIV, their children and more likely grandchildren, are.
Like I said, if you don’t have ANY idea whats happening with the clothes discourse, don’t freaking comment. Don’t try to excuse this decision to bring these clothes in the game. If you have no idea why its such a big deal, don’t fucking comment.
That's a quote from Tumblr article. They don't care what you think. They're making these threads to justify their demands to remove the outfits. They're literally crying to have it done.
At least SE is not creating problems and offering solutions via the Cashshop to boost their earnings with minimal effort like most Korean MMO's like Black Desert Online.
